Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Anther wave coming?

I was on a positivity webinar today and there was mention by some on it that yestedray some things happened that caused them to really question their job security with Humana. Did something else happen that I haven't heard about? Not that any of us are secure at this point, but I'm just wondering if I need to abandon ship with everyone else.

Echoing on what the previous poster said, we got into this career to help people. The problem is that health care is a business, just like every other business. What is the purpose of a SNP plan? Why does Humana offer them to people? They generate income. Pretty good income from what I hear, as this was one of the main reasons Aetna wanted to purchase Humana. The care management program was created to help people manage their health at home-Humana at Home. We are to call people and ensure they have what they need like medications, transportation to doctor's appointments, and food. If they eat like crap, their diabetes goes out of control and they end up costing us thousands of dollars for hospitalization. If they don't take their blood pressure medicine they go into the hospital, costing us thousands of dollars. If someone will just exercise and eat the right things, they won't need so much medication, which costs us money. By us paying for preventative services, we can catch things early and hopefully prevent that member from costing us a ton of money in the long run. We are an insurance company. Yes, Humana "cares" about members, but they care about them in a way that addresses the bottom line. The RN's job (and now the social worker, welcome!) is to investigate someone's needs so we can address and fix it before it ends up costing us money. Health care is changing. CMS reimbursement and penalties are playing a bigger role in health care. There are no more days where you sit at someone's bedside and hold their hand. You are going to get a similar atmosphere any company you work at (although there may be ones that treat staff better), that stress bottom line and minimize costs. This is the new health care in America and it is not changing. Our sole role here is to ensure we decrease the amount of money that Humana spends on SNP members. I remember many years ago when we could call a member and discuss all sorts of things in addition to their health. This built trust. The process is changing and we can't do that anymore. Success will be measured by how fast we can get in the call, find out the member's problems, educate to prevent things from getting worse, and move on to the next member. This is all they want now

🙄 HAH broke the bridge to the "high road." I'm glad I found a job that actually cares for people, as oppose to just saying that we do.

As a leader of this company I am heartened by your concerns. I am in the same boat (lay off) but chose the high road. Make sure our members are ok through the transition and look for other opportunities to ensure that continues within or outside Humana. We all chose our careers to care for human beings. Companies need to do things we may never understand but bottom line is, we don't need this job to help people, we need some self sacrifice and humbleness and love. Next time you see a senior alone, say hi, ask them how they are doing and if their answer doesn't feel right act on it. We've learned amazing things from working at Humana use these learnings and help people on your newly found time.

I surely hope it'll not happen.

I have heard leaders are in a lot more meetings. Getting weird vibes from my coach. I think they realized that HAH has an epically disfunctional culture, and just about all of leadership has turned over. The people left are probably trying to figure out how to restructure to make the program friendly to members, associates and profits. This is a massive undertaking. Instead of an authoritarian structure, HAH should have member facing associates driving pilots and change. In an ideal world, a health coach would be the gatekeeper to Humana. We would have the authority to control the member's communication accross all parts of Humana. We would be member centered. Because our competence is so limited by Humana's inefficiencies and red tape, this program is choking to death as Seniors learn not to pick up their phones.

I think when they change MOC for HCCP we will see cuts.... if everyone has not quit yet.

Can you reach out the person directly to see if they will share what they were referencing?? I have no idea, but would love more info. I agree that there is no current job security and am tired of living in the dark.

Can't believe people still think they have job security there.

What does it take for them to see the writing on the wall?
