Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

United health care layed off 1000 on March 23, 2017. I work there, it's true. Mainly US employees, both senior and junior jobs affected.

Employees told IT jobs dropped due to business side cutting spending till they see how healthcare changes due to Trump will affect bottom line.

I was laid off in May 2017. I worked in IT for 12 years. They do offer placement services. I didn't use them. They've lost a lot of contracts

33 American layoffs in July 2017 in the department I work in. No layoffs for our counterparts in the Philippines.

Regarding Obamacare vs. AHA, yes it can be about Trump and the direction the GOP are taking. UNH removed themselves from the ACA marketplace due to struggling profitability. There is a lot of talk of potentially prolonging the ACA rather than repeal it due to Ryancare's recent demise. If this is the case, it will affect the direction of Health Insurance companies as a whole (who stands to be profitable). This is all before the possibility of some unforeseen direction the GOP goes (single payer, etc..) unlikely, though United Healthcare is very cautious with their roadmap and definitely would like to know what's going to happen.

At the moment, as of 04/04, nothing at the mid to lower levels is known. Talk from on high has been around creating heavier agile related teams and analyzing hiring with a pause due to the high growth and projected growth in the near future. Though, Sr Management is keeping it all close to their chests for the time being.

I was laid off on this date from the Boston office. Junior level, there between 1-2 years. Was not told this was in any way related to Trump, but who knows

Do we know that they plan to lay off the Home based jobs also? Like those who work for Optum. As, my friend works from home as a case manager.

It has NOTHING to do with Trump or the new American Healthcare Act. UNH previously removed themselves from Obamacare because they were losing $ from it. The layoff is likely a result of UNH losing a few major contracts, cutting unneeded staff, and typical layoffs which result in budget reduction. Budget reduction = better EPS in the long run. UNH is publicly traded. They work for the shareholders bottom line.
