Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

H1Bs are the perfect worker, will work 60-70+ hours, paid entry wages or less, can't leave very easily and can be sent home at any time!

Engineering in BLR is like a revolving door - their biggest issue is retention.

without h1b.. all the jobs will go to india..its better they are here so they can pay taxes and contribute to our economy..

If Cisco could hire and retain people in India the jobs would already be there. Over the past decade executives in all hands in the US have encouraged US citizens to consider moving to India to work for much less money.

Yes. I agree. Keep H1b as H1b only...no anymore

The H1Bs in my group are NOT paid minimum wages - are extremely hard workers and super smart - and work the same amount of hours as any other members of the team!

It's interesting that you talk of how many hours they work but clearly can't say they are getting the same pay as US born workers. The H1Bs I worked with were quite vocal about getting low wages. When you are "talking about people" you might want to also acknowledge the fact that they don't have certain freedoms including the ability to just change companies at will.

As for super-smart, it shouldn't take long studying the quality metrics to see that environment yields extremely stupidity. Those explicitly heralded as super-smart were in fact the most incompetent engineers with which I have ever worked. US born, H1B, others working in their native countries - it doesn't matter. Many had real potential before they came in the door but the blinders are on so tight now I believe most are unrecoverable.

This is ridiculous! The H1Bs in my group are NOT paid minimum wages - are extremely hard workers and super smart - and work the same amount of hours as any other members of the team! They are treated and respected just like everyone else and are valuable members of the team. Stop being so cruel - you are talking about people!
