Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Is it the UK's turn yet?

We have had the US, India, and it looks like Israel is getting it next week. When's the UK's turn?

@4tfn I know you are absolutely correct and talking common sense, but from an ELT perspective, the party must continue! The Emperor has no clothes but you can rest assured nobody will pull the brake on this gravy train. I think you already know where this ends but there is a lot of money in the bank so it's going to be a long and painful demise I fear.

In the grand scheme, cannot make sense of the financial mechanism of this apparently now ongoing, limited, targeted, LR intention; and balance sheet benefit. How much does the company spend to jet thousands to CiscoLive, offsites, routine $2,000 group dinners, and team-building "events" (open-bar and overnight suites included). What ever happened to the frugality aspect...it seems millions could be saved by common sense savings in these facets first. It feels as if my LR'd salary will be spent perhaps on offsite merlot and steaks; never mind the facet of allowing smart and motivated folks an attempt to fit in with new cross-training opportunities. I realize it's natural for all this to occur in any company's lifecycle...but is the change truly being scrutinized and maximized for return on LR dollars. Seems like all this could be avoided with some good performance management (how CAN a company run without performance reviews); and frugality cost-cutting initiatives. Where's this train going?

I got laid off in 2015 and it's now 1/4 way through 2017 and I'm still picking up the pieces. If I were someone looking at Cisco as a potential employer, my advice is to walk away. I think short term it was great, but I think it's going to have a lasting negative effect on my career.

Marketing was hit with some brutal & unethical layoffs in 2015... no announcements

Will there be a great big one (Limited Restructuring) again at the end of this fiscal? I can't see it happening. That would send a message that the leaders screwed up last year.

So what you're saying is that the ELT screwed up all the other years that had a workforce reduction or limited restructuring the year following the previous one.

In the US, there was a reduction in '08 that made the news. Then there were the ones in '11, '12, '13, & '14. Cisco skipped '15 as that was Chuck's first year as CEO. Then there was the big one in '16 and lots of little ones following the big one. I guess the ELT was OK sending the message in '12, '13 & '14. And, if after Chuck's first year as CEO resulted in reductions, then he screwed up his first year.

Hearing reports that a few got hit in the SP BU last week. No announcements, just disappearances - all very KGB like. Seems like their strategy this time was to take out people that are remote. What's really disturbing is that it was top down coming from upon high - even directors weren't in the loop.

So, as we've always said, visibility is absolutely crucial to your future - especially so if you're a remote employee - and here is a clear example.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real.

Meek and obedient you follow the leader

Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.

What a surprise!

A look of terminal shock in your eyes.

Now things are really what they seem.

No, this is no bad dream.

12 month rolling contracts is the new normal.

Every time one gets shown the door, three more leave and TSN grads replace them. Great!

Is ongoing stealth LR then the new norm?

It's been the norm for over a decade.

Maybe a smart philosophy to tend to livestock, but probably not the most common sense philosophy to try to herd the more intelligent Cisco cattle.

Given that none of the remaining cattle have figured out that this has been going on for over a decade I think we can disqualify the idea that "more intelligent Cisco cattle" exist.

Is ongoing stealth LR then the new norm? How about a policy statement or executive statement? What is the value of a covert-style targeted LR culture? Is this the new Cisco? Wait for the next wave of the plague to break out and hope your own immune system and luck will keep you alive until the next spring. Maybe a smart philosophy to tend to livestock, but probably not the most common sense philosophy to try to herd the more intelligent Cisco cattle.
