Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Anybody else hours get cut ???

From what I was told my store had to cut $7,000 in budget for the week. I'm pretty sure they're going to keep cutting until July 8th then they can give up on the whole operation.

It is very sad to see stores closing and jobs being lost. It seems like many of the jobs that used to be full time are part time now in retail. Makes it difficult to supplement your income as needed if you are part time with a second job if your hours arent consistent. I have had many friends who have experienced this over the years at different retailers. It really is unfortunate, but it seems to be the direction things are going. It is very different than when I worked in the stores years ago. It also is tough because many of the Sears stores today have been open forever, so they are oversized. Sears had to change and whether or not all changes were right at the time cant be questioned now as they are done. You just have to do what makes you happy. I have had friends complain about working at Carsons, Ulta which I couldnt believe as they are on fire now. It was always about hours or lack of hours and store visits. And you know they were right, but is the way the industry is today. It doesnt make it right, but the jobs are changing.

My store closed this past Sunday, and I am glad to be done with Sears. I gave Sears 18 years, and I am happy for the job, but I should have left a long time ago. With that being said, the ops manager had to cut hours a lot of times, before we went into liquidation. I do not know if there will another round of closings.

Just maybe they can turn it around. God Bless to the Sears and Kmart employees.

Yes. It is time & I am. Looking for a new job. I am exploring positions outside of retail so it's taking a little time. I think retail is contracting across the board and I'm getting older so I want to make a change into something that's going to be around for awhile such as healthcare.

Maybe I am too sensitive but this Sears demise is emotionally draining & saps my energy more than it should. I am working less but worrying about bills more.

We just finished liquidating the store I worked at. Last year the stores hours per week went from 1700 to 1200 then slowly dropped to barely 600 Christmas week. 2 weeks later it was announced the store was being closed. As has been mentioned above there were employees who would go into a stockroom and do nothing all day that was known by the store manager, but he liked them so nothing happened, meanwhile hardworking associates got their hours cut. Then corporate would come in and complain about how something isn't done right, there's a mad rush and bonus hours to get it fixed then it's cut again until right before the next visit. Once you see the start of hourly reductions for associates across the board it's time to start looking for a new job.

My hours have beem steadily reduced. I went from 38 - 40 hours a week and each week it seems like an hour or two is being shaved off. It wasn't a sudden reduction, in my opinion it was done that was to try and reduce the number of people who would up and quit after using the time off to find work elsewhere.

My Sears store has been cutting hours to the bone for weeks now. Started in earnest with the new quarter. Unfortunately it keeps employees from being able to do their jobs since they can only work a small number of hours with only a couple of people on at a time.

Of course there are a couple of people who continue to clock in for long shifts and do literally no work. Same as they did before but you notice and resent it more now. Manager could not care less about this but others are getting threatened with working outside of schedule infractions.

It's been an unwritten rule that you wouldn't get in trouble for working (reasonably) outside of schedule since the schedule changes per management direction but these same managers don't update the system to reflect their requirements. Now you get written up for all kinds of things. Unless you are the 2 oddly favored employees. The 2 that do no work ever but clock overtime. Yes. Overtime.
