Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Vacating the campus.

Looks like the mother-ship's valley footprint is about to get much smaller: http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170324005143/en/Hudson-Pacific-Properties-Announces-Capital-Plan-Office

Other articles mentioned that people thrown out of Milpitas buildings will be covered as part of a a San Jose expansion elsewhere. Sure.....

Wonder if they will get a nice new space like that one team that has the 'Millennial-friendly' SJ office with trendy tables/open workspace, nice coffee machines and free fruit. I heard ya get massive dirty looks if you camp out there. What building is that?

If this means that remaining buildings will get snacks like 18 or 9 have, then I'm all in favor selling them.

Cisco reducing footprint meanwhile Apple, Google, AWS, Msft, Palo Alto Networks are all expanding their campuses or building new ones.

Labs yes, datacenters no. While FB/Google/Apple all build datacenters in northern climates where it's nice and cool, Cisco opts to build our DCs in Richardson....

I supported servers in RTP Bldgs 1, 5 & 7 and in SJC Bldgs 5 & K. Maybe the term data center was wrong.

Always wonder why exec's aren't accountable for when they spend millions (or Billions) on an acquisition they aren't held accountable. I've got to show 10 different ways I'll use equipment and how it'll be shared with 3 different organizations before I can get approval to buy a $3,000 UCS server for the lab.

Yet another example of Cisco flushing $ down the toilet.

Buy a company for tons of money and sell it a few years later for pennies after they ruin it. Pay $10.4 million to break a lease. How much will it cost to move all those workers to new buildings, wherever they may be? How much disruption to work will occur during the move?

Were there any datacenters in these buildings they're vacating? Moving a DC is a non-trivial task.

it's called consolidation of real estate. it's a smart move by cisco. it's also what most every other smart company is doing today

Building 9...a bastion of millennial work space

Why are other Silicon Valley companies expanding? I doubt Cisco would sell eight buildings at headquarters and terminate the lease of another three buildings.

I think you're referring to Building 4? It looks fairly modern and up-to-date.

Free Fruit? I wouldn't count that as a benefit. Walking past it on Thursday, it looked like it had been sitting there for a week.
