My store does. It is a plus if someone is able and willing to help cashier of course, but we aren't forced to. I don't and it is not something I want to do, and as we never have enough MCAs for nearly every shift for weeks now as it is we have plenty enough of our own duties to take care of by far without having to do the work of the cashiers as well. Esp as this is the only store I've worked for that doesn't require cashiers to help on the floor at all when it's slow... I don't get paid enough for my own job, I'm not doing theirs too.

My Sears store is the same as 1mre's. Except no overnight resets.

I feel for the softlines MCAs because in my store these are folks that have no interest in cashiering. They are uncomfortable with the register, the money handling, the type of customer contact, every part of it.

For the most part the cashiers don't want to be MCAs but that's more about laziness. They want to stand there if it's not busy. The MCAs are always busy. They are getting their work interrupted to ring.

Our store is opposite, the hardlines mca's are required to cashier, however softlines mcas only respond to code 3's. The traditional mca duties are falling so far behind in hardlines that managers are scheduling over nights to do floor resets.

I figured. I feel like it was mostly an excuse to justify having cashiers doing MCA work during downtime, rather than the other way around

Even though on paper it's merged at our store it seems the former MCAs are still doing all the duties we were formerly doing but also ringing with the cashiers getting more weekend off now. Should have left it alone. To me it seems we got the short end of the stick but the hardlines side is still basically doing the same thing with no changes.
