Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Go

I had high hopes when the new VP Upstream came on board but he seems to be a blithering sycophantic idiot just like the other EVP's. The CEO needs to go as well for the simple reason he has failed to deliver on any promises since 2009 with the exception of layoff targets. These bozos are now promising to be completely carbon neutral and have actively supported a carbon tax all to the detriment of their shareholders and shareholder value. This is the last place any investor should put their money.

I think you've both missed the boat here. Neither a B. Comm or MBA is a real education

Add CFA and you will catch up. If you have 38 years, then unless you got your MBA much more recently than your B.Comm I would tell you to go back to business school and update. You certainly did not obtain a very solid understanding of organizational behaviour from what taught back then. In any case, I call total b---s---. You have still not provided an explanation for why COP and CVE employees will clash.

Obviously you missed HRMT component,or never took the MBA course in last 5 years, if at all. Working with senior CFA's for many years i find they can count beans but are seldom made in charge unless the strategy is divest, so look forward to meeting you to learn from your "excellent" experience and teamwork.

The only culture clash at CVE is between conventional and oil sands. This will likely remain the case after COP assets are integrated.

On a more serious note, CVE will be divesting additional assets beyond Pelican/Suffield in 2017. Will CVE redeploy existing personnel in CONG to COP assets or will layoffs follow? Which assets are likely to be divested? CVE will become very gas long with the new assets so this seems a logical place to start. How many people from COP will be coming over? Are divestitures likely into 2018 and beyond?

I bet you do not have either my "business school" credentials or my years of experience. People from CPC moving to CVE will be happy to escape corporate America and will be proud to be working for a Canadian company. If you see that as a source of potential tension, please educate us all.

Sure, bets on, 38 years proven experience in jr,middle and multi-national co's

B.Com, MBA, and you? If you went to Business School you failed because what i stated is a fundamental lesson most every large company experiences in this situation...check it out next time b4 outing yourself.

Having worked US and Canada as well as other international assignments, Cdn Mgmnt is less bottom line and less demanding, so I agree with you there! Unfortunately you have a pugilistic attitude, good luck working/playing with others

there's no reason to suggest that CPC people will clash with CVE people any more than CVE people already clash with each other. People need to grow up and act like professionals worthy of the money they earn in this business

Agree with final sentence...try business school or perhaps a few more years of experience before believing the first part

sounds like COP staff have a mindset/ booklet by mgmnt like the one at KOCH forced upon staff...it's really not so excellent

Agreed, probably from Mgmnt, one that CVE HR could do without (integration" culture" problems) ....then again if COP was really so "excellent" perhaps make them CEO, otherwise get used to being told how "excellent" COP was compared to CVE...

That comment below sounds like a COP employee. Execution Excellence is a term management at COP throw around.

COP staff have along standing history of executing with excellence, they will be a great addition to CVE. Lot's will be learned from them!

Unfortunately investors agree CVE now has a record of failing shareholders and given the market/ price for COP it makes many investors question the deal.

This acquisition will complicate CVE operations as the COP/CVE culture clash will consume resources, as ALWAYS occurs when large companies(particularly US/Cdn) co's merge. Moreso thru acquisitions when pride/superiority complex complicates teamwork essential to focus on progress vs personalities. Often proves best to hire from outside either company.

If managed appropriately it could turn positive should redundancy =massive, timely G&A reductions to benefit the bottom line/investors....as much as i feel for those laid off, it's prime time to cut costs, retain only the best educated/experienced/motivated from both companies and turn CVE around. COP was already a mess and dysfunctional....AND start at the Exec level (ie too many already)

Unfortunately almost everyone feels they are more valuable than they probably are, so I suspect combined staff will identify pay for performance disparity like never before...but this time good luck finding a better paying job elsewhere
