Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Money For Nothing

12 RPs - $400,000-$600,000/year

About 60+- VPs - $250,000-$400,000/year

Hundreds of ECs - $160,000-$250,000/year

And that is just base salaries. Ouch, that is a lot of money!

Walter "Highway" Robb-ery---aptly named----led the company into a ditch and got paid 10M plus to do it while others were laid off. I agree with the original post that WFM is way too top heavy with ECs, RPs, and VPs who collect big fat paychecks and stock options yet contribute little of actual value to the company. Ultimately, these types don't really care if the company lives or dies because like Walter the Highwayman, they've already made their millions and will likely sail off in lifeboats filled with ill gotten gains while the ship goes down.

Take care of yourselves everyone and good luck---remember, WFM doesn't care about you

My region has:

1 RP (aloof, unapproachable), rides a bike, makes light jazz music

2 RVPs (clones, one an evil (thinks he's a genius), who behaves like an amateur trial attorney, the other is the most unpleasant woman (who has advanced so quickly in spite of abysmal TL & Morale Survey)

8 ECs, all superior to us mere mortals, who expect their opinions to be the only thing that matters in spite of where their business decisions have left us. Better pick up their phone call or you will be blackballed for 8 years....but they will still be here, too many to go into detail but hey, is it needed?

-Poorly designed stores

-Expansion at the risk of cannibalization

-Opened stores in AWFUL locations (TRZ, anyone?)

-OTS as savior, most solid TLs have implemented this already, problem is with expansion, we have promoted STLs, ASTLs, TLs, coords, in spite of no proven track record

-Shrink is so bad that all we do is react to poor decision making without holding anyone (STLs) accountable, over and over and over again

-Tech that is so outdated, the work expected to be done on the computer by 1 or 2 people, will take them nearly all of their 40 hour work week

-Upper regional leadership is so removed from any new forms of tech that they are still behaving like we phone-in orders, by writing them down on paper

-E-Team primarily concerned with Wall Street and not the incompetence of said regional leadership

-Movement between 365 and the GPPO is fascinating, seems like nobody wants to be on a sinking ship

-Most of all, for me, it's the mind f*ck of the place altogether, which is nuts for a 'grocery store' but real nonetheless.

@krtm: SPOT ON! You named it. All of this incompatible technology is orbiting around that group of 15+ bosses. But it's the 15+ bosses at all levels (store, regional, global) all going in different directions (but ultimately making decisions in their OWN short-term interest) that is at the very core of the problem. Until you take out the evil brain at the center of the Borg, this toxic waste will be spewing in every direction like lava from an erupting volcano. For further details, see Walter "Highway" Robb-ery's $10 million severance package. 10 FREAKIN' MILLION FOR EPIC FAILURE!

This and our technology is are the two biggest hurdles this company is facing. We can handle that we have 15+ bosses, none of which have any experience in our department, all telling us something different. We can handle that we have to go from irma, dvo, hart, data monster, slaw, aloha, pricebooks, sharepoint, estore, spinternet, maple, smore, cheftec, store ops, orderlink, vip, sam, soma, and the daily (hourly?) clean up of my allotted 200MB of Outlook to get almost anything done, plus cover multiple stores, all with smiles! Meanwhile the few of us that can actually deliver results are given useless team mates who fear 'looking bad' by delivering any difficult news, or who are bad a-- brown-nosers that DO NOT contribute in any meaningful way. TMAW - not where we sit.

Guess that's one of the perks to having a crappy retail job. Hope it's worth it a--hole.

There is no doubt the company is top heavy and has been for a long time. Too many high level positions that don't contribute actual value to the company. The global and regional offices are where the cuts need to happen, not store level.

JH4D-6fwj, that was so satisfying, I love when you said ALL they can do is insult and (blame) their workers it's bordering on mental abuse.

The upper MIS-management in the region I worked in? They didn't have advanced degrees. They weren't bright or engaged. They were a bunch of self-important blowhards. Oh, and they DIDN'T work their way up. They were in the right place at the right time when the company bought out a small regional natural foods chain. So take the self-important, condescending attitude and stick it right back where it came from. If these retail geniuses at Global and the regions had been putting up great numbers for years, eating competitors alive and deploying great technology (in other words, executing brilliantly) then that would be one thing. BUT THEY HAVEN'T. Instead all they can do is insult their own workers. Trash talk from trashy people. Enjoy watching your shares drop to zero, guys! I know I will, and tens of thousands of others you lied to with your Tribes and Core Values BS will also join me. I've left retail behind and actually have worked my way up in a solid profession, and can't wait to run into one of you former big shots stocking shelves at a Family Dollar. Now THAT'S something we'll be passionate about seeing.

Yeah no kidding haha. These guys are just jealous that someone with ambition went out and made something for themselves.

Oh cry me a river lol. If you're not happy with your pay go out and get something better. Improve yourself and the pay will follow. Don't waste time complaining what other ambitious people have earned for themselves.

The salaries are believeable but yeah the number of positions is at best a lazy, wild guess on this troll's part.

These numbers are outrageously inflated, which defeats any point that is trying to be made.

And these people that hate on those that make more money are the first to whine about getting fired for attendance or other bs that adults have no problem with. Grow up guys seriously. Don't be jealous, go out and get it for yourself. It's much easier to sit back and complain though I suppose.

lol I love when people complain about how much others earn. If you have a problem with it get off your lazy butt and get an MBA and move up to exec lvls. Or you can just be content with stocking shelves and bagging groceries and hating on those that had the ambition to rise up. Up to you I guess.

There's 11 RP not 12 as the UK doesn't have one.

Definitely not 60 RVP's and nowhere near 100's of EC.

Not a shill. Also there is no way there are hundreds of ec. In fact all your position numbers appear to be inflated.

way too heavy on the administrative costs...once more tech comes down the pipe some of these positions will be dead meat..not too long ago Walmart laid off a bunch of their excess regional positions..will we follow suit? probably not for a while cuz these guys are so far up their own asses to see the light of their laziness and obsolescence.

Company is top heavy! Way to many useless positions. Why does a region with 40-50 stores need a RP, 2 RVPs some many EC's. Newsflash they don't
