It was just announced by our store manager that our lease at our Sears store was renewed for one more year,it was to be up this July, never really heard of only an one year lease but I guess we will see what happens next July.
Is this happening in other stores throughout the country?
Leases mean nothing they closed a kmart 5 years ago and still have 2 years left on the lease. The store is trashed inside mold everywhere.
Our stores closed a year ago and we had just signed a five year lease a few months before we were told we were going to close. It got everyone's hopes up that we had a job for at least 5 more years and we were out of a job within a year. Leases mean nothing.
I believe they are still paying the lease on a store here closed years ago. Bonus for the mall, they count it as "occupied" since someone is paying for it making things look way better on paper than reality.
A lease means nothing, our lease on our store was not up until 2018, and we closed March 26, 2017. Save your money, and look for something better. Only Mr. Lampert knows what he is doing.
Had a conversation with an old timer that told me they only had 7 more years to go before they could retire from their store.

The post below says it all. I was lucky I didn't like what eddie was doing 5 years ago and could see the company going down. So I started a side business and now it's doing great and this is my last day with shc and will step off this sinking ship into my own boat and sail away.
The lease means nothing. It just means your store will continue to make monthly payments to rent the building until bankruptcy is filed later this year. Bankruptcy will void all leases. I wish people were not so brain washed and understood, 100% the company is going out of business. Please be smart guys don't want to see you guys wait until the last minute to get out and not be able to provide for your families.
