I was informed yesterday that my Sears Auto store will be closing on May 24 and vacated no later than June 24. I put in my two weeks notice ten days ago because I have something better to do. We have been keeping quiet but some of the older FLS store heard the news through all of the connections they have made over the years. I only have two days left and I don't much care to deal with any of it because I have already been through a corporate merger and a couple of store closings as well as one golf course closing. I figured that by me pre-emptively leaving I would at least be protecting our young CSA for a while. Not the case. The CSA will be terminated tomorrow morning. We'll see how that goes.
The number one question everyone has is when the FLS store will be closing. As luck would have it, the FLS manager is on vacation in Vegas for 11 days.(hmmmm) The way things went down over the last 30 hours is that I was never informed by any DM or copied on anything and I am the assistant manager. That has pretty much always been that way with Auto. I would imagine that FLS is the same way because it wouldn't make sense to give that information to the ASM while the SM is out. The attached FLS store numbers are horrific.
Does anyone have any insight into an attached Auto Center closing but not the FLS? Us leaving is going to make a bad situation worse for those few folks still left in FLS. The warranty situation alone is going to drive FLS nuts. The 80 year old geezer with his 2005 Lincoln Town Car isn't going to be able to get the free tire rotation he paid for. The nearest AC to us is about a two hour drive. We're Sorry.
