Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Layoffs in May?

Rumor is layoffs in May. Dedicoat has to cut 500M in opex. Anyone else heard that?

I figured this out a few weeks ago when they shuffled all the managers in my department, and sent out a few resumes. Just randomly got a new manager with no personal attachment, so I figured something was coming. Have a job offer but by guesswork I told them I can't do anything until May 18, since I figured that was the day after the earnings call AND I was told there could be a 30% cut in budget for our department by new manager (I guess that was his way of warning us). I figure if I don't get laid off I will just quit, but I am hoping I get the axe so I can at least get paid a little on my way out.

Read the bios and where most used to work and it should clear things up about what type of product was acquired.

Lots of chatter floating around about the cuts in May. Question is if they will happen before the Q3 announcement (rumored 12-16th) or after they announce.

Why acquire a company for $3.7B n save 500$M with so many cuts ?

GSP and overlays got hit hard last August. Sad thing is: most of the good, flexible talent was in overlays....these were the people that knew multiple technologies and could fix broken depts/solutions. Now most of them are gone to competitors.

@cgv - why the hate for VSAs? Like every role there's good and bad but the best have industry experience that you can't buy and give credibility with the right customer.

As I see it, the only issue with VSAs generally, and it's not their fault, is that they tend to be involved in verticals with longer sales cycles, which doesn't fit Cisco's model; it's more of a BD role.

(I'm not a VSA but I've worked with some very good ones).

@N2yj0HP-psn

Excellent idea.

The first three (DTG+DAT+CDA) adding S+CC, will save us between $160-$200M annual base cost, if we add other useless overlays, I am sure we can get easily to the $500M target without ditching any AM's or SE's (the ones who are really working :) )....

Ideas. Ditch CDA. DTG, DAT, EBG, PSS, VSA, and you will save that cash immediately. Biggest wastage is duplicate resources and managers in architecture teams who do duck all. Just chase the bread and quack quack quack.

None of the new revenue streams can grow fast enough to compensate for the revenue loses being made in core products. It's the end. The revenue declines will accelerate massively at some point, maybe as soon as 2 years. If you servive the cuts before this then you may be the unlucky ones. No one respects ex-employees from a failing business, plus their will be a lot of you to choose from. If you work in partner org, best hold on as long as you can and save your cash, because no one will want you outside Cisco. No other vendor pays partner AMs anywhere near what Cisco do and often their teams are grads fresh out of uni. Not sure what a partner AM classifies their job as, but it's not sales that's for sure! If you're end user sales there is hope for you still. I can see the writing on the wall and I'm going to make my move now, while I still have a choice and semi employable.

If you want proof speak to any colleagues. Nearly everyone is going to interviews right now and hardly any are being offered roles. There was a time when you could get a job anywhere with Cisco on your CV, not anymore!

LRs are part of Cisco Culture like it or not it's here to stay along with treating the company like a man suffering from mid life crisis. You do not see Goldman Sachs saying look at us we are hip we can act young.

Layoffs to be announced at our next earnings. Kelly will have Chuckles position as part of some BS rationalizeation. GSP and overlay orgs hit as well as recent engineering debacles in cloud, route, and collaboration/digitalization...which are a waste anyway.
