Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

Doomed

The fight between e-commerce and Homeoffice will end in the destruction of the company. You can't M&A your way to success at some point you have to stop fighting and do real innovation. All the non technical managers need to be let go and they need to focus on developing talent from within. Instead they are gutting the company with senseless layoffs. Walmart is just doomed to fail frankly. Bending over for mellinals won't save them either.

I'm laughing at grumpy old person. He's right though. It feels like when you hit around forty years old they start trying to get rid of you. I've seen so many good associates walked out while they kept younger associates who were not as good at their job.

That's why it sometimes feels like Groundhog Day up there. You get a new group in and they get things figured out. Then they weed out that group and the one that comes behind it comes in and goes through the same process and tries the same things. It's over and over again. That is what causes the "ditch to ditch" situation that so many people talk about in regards to Walmart.

I don't personally believe that you can have a long term career at Walmart any longer. There's a box and a pink slip with your name on it when you get to a certain age is how it seems to me.

If you are one and you don't know what "bending over for millennials" means don't worry you will find out in 2042 lol

I'm curious what the OP meant about "bending over for [millennials]," only because I grow tired of people shaking their canes in the air at the coming generation.

Top level executives not take a bonus? Not even in the twilight zone would that happen.

I wonder what would happen if the board paid all these VPs no more than a sr director in terms of salary and then capped stock at 2 mil max for top level brass that wouldn't begin to vest for five years? And in order to get the stocks you had to hit certain price competitiveness targets, online revenue growth, and people development growth or you didn't get the extra stock.

Sr director pay is a lot of money. And two million in stock can set you up for life even at CEO level. All you'd have to do is the right thing for the long term health of the company. But I believe tons of leadership would walk if we did this. And that tells you all you need to know about what motivates them at Walmart.

I find it ludicrous that a billion dollar company did not see the trade winds of e-commerce in the pipeline and then forecasting the trend . Trends in the market are inevitable , however should be analyzed then put a Strategy in play to allow such change with trends to emerge stronger in the market . The leaders of this company are irrifuetibly liable for this mess . In my opinion the CEO should not take a bonus out of respect for the demise of the associates whom put their heart and soul into this company .

I met Sam Walton , he was present to everyone of the store openings driving his ol pick up truck . He was a frugile but smart businessman whom cared very much for the associates as he did for the members / customers . I learned a lot at my tenure with this company and take Sam Waltons ethics and integrity I learned from him when he was alive and utilized at past job opportunities . He taught a strategy : utilizing your job as if you owned your own company , basically it teaches young people to take pride in your job regardless of the title . It's sad to see that this strategy is not practiced , instead corporate has taken over and micromanaged . Sad times for this company , truly sad !!!

This says it all as to what Walmart thinks of its current talent. The same people who worked the company out of the years long losing streak are now viewed as "not good talent."

So now the company goes and pays big bucks to hear this new talent tell them what folks on the inside have said for years. They're starting to do what was begged for for years. Lower prices. Walmart doesnt pay people in the stores enough to care. Start competing online.

Yeah. It takes a real genius to figure all that out.

More like leadership is blaming employees for their shortcomings and throwing company money at the issues to cover them up.

But that's just one person's opinion. I could be wrong for all I know.

With all the acquisitions, WM is trying to keep themselves at the top by buying talent. Apparently the talent was not within the organization. I equate this to a MLB team. They all have a farm team where they groom the younger players until they are ready for the big league. WM has unable to compete because they have no farm team. So they go out any buy free agents (acquisitions). In most cases, this will buy temporary success but not for the long term.

This may keep us competitive for the next few years, but after that, who knows. We need to build our farm team back up and stop acquiring free agents. Using my MLB analogy again, free agents are usually with a team temporarily until a better offer comes along.
