Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

You can slip, but you can't change the date!

Appears to be mostly a continuation of 2016 layoffs, as mentioned above. Including some whole groups at once, 10-20 peoples, in various geos. But lots of ex-Intel'rs are still getting recruiter phone calls. Lots of contract positions opened up, even though April spending supposedly got frozen. Since April 2016 they flushed over 18K, but still only ended up 5K below the peak. So churning in new meat for the mill, and you can see that in the lower payroll figures.

Hard to say what qualifies as a layoff versus normal Focal purging. 3K? 5K? 7K? They continue to churn the ranks, getting rid of the journeymen and master-level skills, while increasing the grade10+ ranks. Lots of grade 10+'s are doing Grade 7-9 work, because they have no teams under them anymore.

With the extra 30% reduction "planned" by ESM for this year, there will be more. But the normal planning cycles have been disrupted by Murthy's attempted revamps, and the lack of experienced Individual Contributors means that many of the top projects have been getting later and later. AND the VPs who told Murthy to GTH took with them a lot of the management skills and history to guide projects at the top.

And at the front-lines, Experienced people are frustrated by the new ones. Not that the new are not smart, just don't know yet what to do in a new environment. How to get things done. They lack the experience that was drummed out. Ramping up takes time, sometimes years on such complex projects, and that has not been built into the new schedules, because you can never change the ship date. You can slip, but you can't change the date!

The source of revenue is reducing, capex is up, failing processes, inefficient execution, unproductuive and abusive culture. Micro-management that impedes innovation. Looks like a winning combination.
