Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

IT thoughts

I worked in the IT (ISD) department for about 9 years. It is full of wonderful and knowledgeable people who know how to do what they do. Here was the problem, nothing new could come about because of our the associates unwilling to allow or think outside the box if they could not see the ROI it was very difficult to put int he enviroment. Anything new had to happen behind everyone's backs before it could be accepted. It took the hire of a new network VP to open the doors to basic internet surfing for the IT associates. It is a slow crawl of change in a very fast moving environment. My thoughts, it would be better bring all new store or e-commerce up in a new environment and shift all old. In the years and years of effort to save money and cut cost Walmart will have to spend much more money just to stay alive in this new (20+year) environment, not new at all. I still love this company and think it has and is doing great things for the world. I would work there again in a min.

Sam was of a different generation, but he still valued technology and innovation. What happened to his vision?

Left early. Just heard grumblings from earlier in April of Layoffs which lead me to this site. But they happen all the time in the industry and at Walmart.

Another 9 year associate here... my area still does not have goals for this year . Everyday I am hearing we will have to use a new tool to be more agile and track our work. If it's not jira then it's betterworks. Jira.wal-mart.com or tracker.wal-mart.com(different version of jira used by Bentonville). Oneops or azure (now stopping people from using azure) team roster, some teams still wanting to use LeanKit. Automic vs ansible. Clarity vs no clarity . Oh did I mention many areas still have no goals???

This post is all over the place ... just like dgtc is... I say all of this to say we here in Bentonville do want new things and to change... but unfortunately there is too much change and swapping going on that associates are frustrated, and lacks commitment because will just be told we are not doing x anymore.

Leadership also wanting everyone to (make up) goals for betterworks even though many have not cascaded their own down yet.... I believe it's just a check mark on some supervisory checklist honestly ... I mean they know this huge reorg is coming this week and next....
