Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The point system

Is Sears still using the point system for attendance? In our store they haven't enforced it in over a year. They don't even enforce no shows. If someone doesn't feel like working on any particular day they just don't show up. If and when they do show up on another day nobody says anything to them about it. The district recruiter told me Sears is so desperate will hire anyone who can breathe.

The SM in my store claimed we were going to get back on track with the point system. Unfortunately, despite several attempts at reaching out to the community, we just can't seem to find anyone willing to work a terrible job for minimum wage, so actually firing people for not showing up would only result in the store having to few people to man the registers or work the sales floor. Of course, the DM had the brilliant idea of making it mandatory for all the stock associates to learn how to run a register, even the elderly associates who are just doing this as something to pass the time, and quite possibly even some developmentally disabled associates who are employed under a program run by a local non-profit. There is already talk of multiple reliable associates planning to quit over this, so....great job DM.

I think it depends on the store personally. My store enforces it to certain people basically it depends who is your manager. I know one of the managers (I don't work directly) fired one of his good employees because of all the lates and callins. So I think it just depends overall. If its something you do one in a while I don't even think they give you a point.

The date is a guess, but the idea is correct... they're just trying to keep the store open until an unspecified date.

Even someone with zero retail experience knows it isn't possible to Actually sale merchandise by doing this. They're just trying to slow the bleeding.

No one know the actual date for the bankruptcy though. Let's be real.

--- is like Sears is trying to keep the stores open with no one working in it ---

All they gotta do is keep 'em open until July 8 '17 after they meet that date everything is fair game for adios';

Have not heard anything about the points system for attendance in our Sears store for years,we are lucky anyone is showing up for work, there are so few people working in our store as it is.

We are a mid size B store with only about 45 people on our staff,in all my over 30 years at Sears,I have never seen so few associates working to cover the floor,it is like Sears is trying to keep the stores open with no one working in it.

It probably varies based on your location as well as how replaceable your position is...as well as your personal performance. Think six figure sales appliance person versus a cashier. I was HI but my metrics were really good, especially for part time. I probably had like 8+ points before I even got a warning. Even then it was only marked as like 3...a number of other people were warned at a correct number and others were even let go. I never co called no showed though and if I wasn't able to make it I'd let them know in advanced.

Of course, I never actually told anyone or tried to correct them...

It has not been enforcing our store in over a year either. People just come and go as they please.

Yes. In our store it is strictly enforced by both the management team and the market HR team.
