Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What made Kirk Skaugen and Pat Gelsinger so good?

I've been at Intel for some years now, but didn't pay attention to the politics when Kirk and Pat were still at Intel. I've seen comments about them being really good with the idea that Pat should've been CEO and Kirk grew DCG to where it is today. Can anyone elaborate why they were good and was the politics that drove them out?

I do remember the BUM Kirk had where was to leave DCG for CCG. He was putting on a brave face, but he seemed also close to tears and could barely keep it together right at the end of the BUM.

The senior executive branch "was" deep but the best all left the circus now led by a clown to far more successful and rewarding careers than toiling away in the current circus.

MR hasn't done a damn thing -- and don't tout his 20+ year old college credentials, Barrett has those but all he did was empty the cash register with a bunch of ill-advised purchases. BK is no better. There is quality elsewhere

These two (Pat and Kirk) would have made a C-suite dream team. They complemented each other well and both were visionary, transformative leaders. Would have taken Intel to another level.

Pat - passionate about the products, technology. Believed in innovation, beyond just fancy selling and choking of customers...was never going to be CEO, so he left. Despite being an Intel lifer (started as an intern) never expecting to leave, he blossomed after leaving Intel...something we should all consider.

Kirk - passionate about people. Championed that if treat employees right, they will excel. Pushed out because blamed for not turning around Intel in face of decline of the PC market and thought ACT was abominable. Maybe BK or VM viewed him as a threat. Never wanted to do desktop or phones - went cause PSO asked him..

Fister - Smooth talker...

@ops, forgot about Larrabee, that's true. He was ousted soon after that was realized to be a disaster.

IMO the missed opportunity was fister taking off for his ceo gig at cadence. Smart guy with buisness acumen and social skills.

Pat was a rising star but I think Larrabee was his Waterloo.
