Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Performance Evaluations

This is another joke right here. Management says since the company isn't doing good nobody in the store is getting better than 3. It's not my fault the people just looking at computers, metrics, and all that other BS all day think they know what the common person want. When corporate does visit a store they act like your opinion matters when it doesn't. They act like they walk on air. I'm pretty sure more than half never worked their way up that's why this company is so disconnected. For being authentic I got 1 because my boss said I bad mouth the company. I couldn't stop laughing in their face. Last time I checked speaking your mind open and freely would constitute being authentic. I don't sugarcoat anything with anybody at my store. When it comes to bad mouthing the company I said everything I reiterate is public information. It's not like you get a raise if your performance is excellent. My performance evaluation can't be much worse than uncle Eddie's performance evaluation.

Instead of whining about raises, be proactive and look at the facts. Sears is doomed, the Ship is going down. When BK is filed everything goes to zero in an instant, including your paycheck. Some of you will jump off before it sinks and find a descent job. Others will keep whining and go down with it and be last in line for that new job. Which one are you? There are no more rabbits in Eddies hat, he's burning the walls section by section to keep the fire going. Pretty soon his house of cards will fall.

@uvx- because we actually had cute clothes until the last 2 years or so! And I didn't mean I went bragging around town, lol. I meant at work. Customers would compliment my outfit and I would take them over and sell them the same outfit.

The GEM program should be called the SCAM program. As others have posted, it is touted as a pathway to promotions, however, all it will lead to is a punishing load of work! They will have you running in circles your entire workday and constantly berate you for not keeping up. Then, when you question when your promotion is coming, they will say your work isn't up to par and/or your not the caliber of person they are looking for. Not a single person who joined this program in our store was ever promoted. Most quit soon after they realized they had been bamboozled.

They almost got me with that GEM program. Then I realized this company isn't going anywhere. They have you doing all the manager duties for way less than you should. Christmas time they got me good. I would close one night and turn around and had to open the store. I've worked my managers schedule a couple of times just so they could start vacation early. I've managed the store by myself quite a few times. I was a lead and key carrier. Right after Christmas they took the keys and my little extra dollar away. After that my manager came to me and said I would have to do more work. I was like yea ok soon as you give me a better raise.Hey I tricked myself into thinking something better would come out of it. Now I do just enough while i look for another job. Take the money but want you to work harder and do more work.

@N9G63xO-1oms Believe me its so sad because management plays games indeed with if you (they lie to you seen it be done heard it be done its just sad that they will sugar coat a future yet you work so hard just to fall for it). They say if work hard enough you can move up in the company. I had a co worker she was nice new girl she was hoping to move up in this company and I told her straight out been here for a while never gotten a raise this isnt the company to be in if you think things will get better. She left within a month as she also saw that their was no way to move up in the store. That is a lie the most recent as well as many others heard is the whole GEMS program.

What they say potential possibility to get a manger position in the future.

What it truly is you do manager work for as long as you buy the whole scam about the GEMS program.

I had a co worker that felt for it for an year (thats right a whole year) she was doing all this manager work she would run around believe me it was sad time passed and she realized their was no such thing because nothing ever happened. They are pulling it again with the flyer with the whole GEM thing once again a few others felt for the trap. The question is how long are they going to go until they realize its a scam.

The sad thing in our store is that they have just hired a bunch of people, around 5, and each one of them was told they would get promotions for doing a good job and getting good evaluations. We had one girl, a single mom, break down when we told her no one has gotten a raise in 10 years. She had just quit another job with raises because Sears could work with her schedule better. That is the stuff I think is unethical.

@N9G63xO-1fyn Well let me give you some obvious reasons why I bought my water heater at Lowes than Sears. Cheaper (the same capacity boiler at Lowes I got it for under $300 I saved $100+ dollars vs Sears so do you think I would pay extra to support a company that doesn't pay me well and is sells overpriced products)? I don't have a discount at Sears anymore and no I don't want points I want to save. Maybe because Sears doesn't even sell the damn product instore.

I needed the water heater I could of bought it online, but it was more expensive ($100+ dollars more expensive lol...) and since I don't have a discount it doesnt work out at all. As other has mentioned just because I work for Sears doesn't mean I have to spend my hard earned money their. They just basically make it for you to not support the company the vibe that builds within time, course you still have your blind people that think Sears is their to help and well what can you do they are blind, but a lot open their eyes to see that this company doesn't give a damn.

Another example the only reason I got the Sears credit card was actually to use my associate discount since I didn't know outside credits didnt work with your discount, now that the discount is gone and its point I use my outside credit card I have not touched the Sears credit card because once again we got slapped by them. I do buy very rare when I get surprise points and its dirt cheap, but my point is I use my outside credit card now because of what they did.

Corporate- No we don't have a more positive outlook. We are just as scared for our jobs, worried about layoffs or the company going under

@twc- I have often noticed that the stores vs. corporate feel like 2 completely separate companies. Those at corporate (those who post here at least) who have not worked in the stores in the past 5 years or so seem to have a much more positive outlook on the company. We really do feel like trash in the stores.

I used to take pride in shopping here and telling people I got my clothes from here, just like that commercial a few years back. However, without the old discount and without the same selection we once had, not so much anymore. My sense of loyalty to this company has also disappeared, thanks to the general attitude towards the stores and the associates in the stores. And yes, I'm aggressively looking for employment elsewhere.

I'm not obligated to give Sears my money. I work for Dollars not surprise points. They don't pay enough to live and support them at the same time, so the check most people get you have to prioritize and budget. Yes that means shopping around for a good value or something that Sears doesn't offer. It's different reasons and different factors as to why some don't or can't "Support" this company.

@fyn- I, for one, bought a ton at Sears. Enough to be Platinum VIP in SYW. I bought most of my clothes here because even if someplace else had something I liked a little better, the price here with the associate discount couldn't be beat. I buy elsewhere now, because I don't like that the points I get in lieu of the old discount expire in 60 days. It's a slap in the face.

The company doesn't support its employees so it works hand in hand. If you're going to treat me like the average customer, why not do what the average customer does and shop around for the lowest prices. Sorry Sears can't compete or won't compete with prices so there you have it.

I dont understand why anyone would work for a company that they wont support? If you are buying from Lowes why wouldnt you just go work there then? I cant always buy everything from Sears, but I buy what I can. Or did you used to buy everything you could from Sears and it has just been the last 10 years or so that you dont? By not buying from Sears you are in a way hurting your chances of doing better.

@N9G63xO-caw Exactly! Every year they call me for an year evaluation I can get all 0's or all 5's by the end of that evaluation I am not getting a raise so why even bother with it? There has been times I could buy products from the Sears yet I don't buy nothing from them. Needed a boiler I didn't buy it from Sears bought it from Lowes! I aint supporting a company that doesnt appreciate its workers.

These are such a joke. When my manager calls me in for an evaluation I always respond, "Oh goody, it must be time for a raise!" He would reply, "Well, you know we don't give raises." And then I would ask, "Then why are we having this eval?"

"Oh, this is so we can tell you what you are doing well and how you can even work harder and better for the company" LOL....with no raise of course or any other incentive for that matter.

I would tell him, let's skip all this, just tell me where you need me to sign. None of it matters anyway.

Those reviews are scored like that so you can't get a raise. They have to do the yearly review, but they find even the most absurd reason to not give you one.

What difference does it make what you get on your evaluation. You are not going to get a raise anyway. Let's see, doesn't this make year number 10 without raise. No wonder you failed Eddie, and we can see why you have been named the worse CEO of any company. What a joke!!!!!
