Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Embarrassed and ashamed to work for Lowe's

When I see the horrific changes that have taken place at Lowes, it makes me feel very ashamed and embarrassed that I work here. I see so many older people being treated negatively. It is definitely not the company that I want to work for. I feel alone, completely useless by the way I'm treated at this company. I cannot believe that the stockholders are completely unaware of this situation at Lowes. Think about all the millions of dollars they have spent in programs that have failed over the 10 years and yet they feel like getting rid of employees who are dedicated is the answer to fix their issues and their stupidity. And don't forget the eight million dollar bonus that they gave the leader of LOWES.

I'm also blaming the stockholders, They have the power to do something and yet they're doing nothing.

I've been working at Lowe's since our store opened. In that 6 year period, the store has gone through 4 store managers, 13 A.S.M.s 4 HR managers, # L.P. managers and through all of this, there have only been a half dozen, or so, new Department Managers. Some have changed departments, but the core group of them has stayed pretty much the same. However, about a year ago we took on or promoted 6 new department managers. Guess who made the service manager cut. You guessed it, all of the junior managers. They got promoted and got an increase in pay and yet, most of them earn less than I did as a Department Manager of three years. The same thing happened in the surrounding 5 stores. Coincidence? I think not. Robert Niblock is slowing destroying this company. Customers see it, contractors see it and soon the stock holders will see it. By that time, Niblock will have pushed Lowe's into an irreparable downfall. Good luck finding new jobs everyone. I'm on my way out very soon.

I'm 57 years old, was unemployed for 3 years, and finally got on...at Lowe's. I'll be honest, I'm only there because I can't find anything else, plain and simple.

I work hard, as hard as anyone my age, in OSLG (the toughest dept. in the stores, period) and I've been there 14 months. Guess what? I'm still "seasonal," no benefits at all. They call me FT, but my hours vary from 20-38 depending on how business goes. I often close, get off at 11:00PM, get home at 11:45PM, and then open at 5:00AM the next day...at least 5 times a month. Lowe's says they're not supposed to do this (remember orientation?), but they do. I challenge anyone my age to hump it in the south Georgia heat like I do. How doe's Lowe's reward open availability and hard work? By keeping me seasonal (temporary).

I hate Lowe's and will leave without any notice when I get something else. I won't call out and f--- by co-workers, but I will quit at the end of my shift. Lowe's is a horrible, monster corporation that doesn't care a damn about people. Corporate says customers come to Lowe's because they feel like family!! b---s---...they come to Lowe's for the sales...period, end of story. 75% of OSLG sales are based on mulch, soil, pavers, and plant sales. If Lowe's didn't have frequent sales out there, they wouldn't make half as much, and that's a fact.

Our store easily does $130,000.00 a day this time of the year, driven by lumber & OSLG, which does 75% of this. What does Lowe's do? Bring people in 1 hour early and make them stay 2 hours after closing. Guess what? it's not working. There's less coverage now than before because corporate is trying to squeeze every dime out of what they have. More people have left our store in the last 4 months than in the last year, and that's not a joke.

Lowe's, you're a disgrace to decent Americans everywhere. I take pleasure in closing alright, closing for another store by telling people they can get a better bargain at Walmart, Home Depot, ACE, Target, etc. And you know what? People thank me. I don't even bother to report shoplifters. What do I care if someone's stealing from the corporate pigs?

I know a lot of people still there that feel the same way. About everyone left there (that I know) are putting out resumes right and left trying to get out.

Thank you for putting this out in the open. The more that comes out by others, the more eyes open. If those who are in control care to open their eyes, that is. Customers were lied to as to why this "restructure". Just hope you hang in there and are able to continue your employment as it is very tough out there on finding work. My hubby is 57, dedicated years at Lowes as Asm. He is constantly getting calls from associates still. It is sad. Sad that they can't go to those chosen to stay. The store moral dropped horribly, sales are down and customers are angry as help is not what they had before. Pay increases over the years for excellent performances, he hates to tell others to deny the increases and to just keep doing your job. Everyone knows it was his age and income as to the reason, as they replaced him with a younger inexperienced person. Especially when it was done in the other stores that we know other Asms that were let go. Critera seen on Asms that were let go are those 10+yr dedicated folks in the age brackets and that helped build Lowes into the Giants they are/were in communities they opened in.

Our suggestion is, hold your head high and keep working. Keep doing your job as the customers do need you.
