Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Worst lay off walk ever

I heard this guy was told to stay 4 hours to finish his work and his boss told him the news at lunch time. Guy had to walk out in front of everyone. I know some tell the news early in the morning to avoid a any embarrassment. Totally wrong way to do it.

Oracle is not, nor has ever been, known for being a warm & fuzzy work enviro. It's a well known meat grinder. At least in sales it is. Everyone knows this is what the oracle brand is about. You produce or you're out. Plain & simple. Most, if not all, of this board's posts must be from non-sales ee's and former ee's.

Oracle managers and execs are the worst, goes right to the top because the top doesn't care about the quality of management and how employees are treated

In my experience, ALL of the managers are pathetic excuses for managers.

I worked in fusion middleware.... they lie, cheat, steal.... anything they need to do to keep the job.

They will sabotage their own employees without a second thought.

"Could be another motive, too..... keep everyone else in line by making an example of someone."

rhetorical question: what a pathetic excuse of a manager are you if you need to resort to this?

if you got no respect from your subs due to your incompetence and managerial style, you aren't going to get any more, morals are going to down and eventually you will have no one to manage.

though in this company, that seems to be a workable hierarchy structure .

try some managerial self help books or just abort yourself and go find a more suitable job before nature takes care of it for you.

There was a layoff in February at one of the campuses, and a manager never told his employee he was laid off. The employee got a call from his wife early that afternoon asking him if she should open a package that just arrived by FedEx - it was his layoff papers!! So the guy found out, early in the afternoon - FROM HIS WIFE! - that he was done.

Beautiful - the leadership and management is lower than low...what a riot....

There are some seriously sadistic managers at Oracle who deliberately abuse and embarrass employees.

It would be funny to see what a seriously sadistic manager can do to a seriously "I don't give a flipping frog's fat a--" employee to "compel" him/her to finish his work or be deliberately abused. They might have put up with it before layoff, but trust me, it ain't happening once they see pink.

Are they going to get into a physical or verbal altercation? Cell phone videos colleagues?

The minute I know that I am not employed anymore, that's the minute I stop taking direction from the management of this company. No if's, and's or but's. The only transactions beyond this is to take care of the paperwork and only if that's not too onerous. Try to screw me over with that? And I'll give you the flipping bird. I am outta there. Try and stop me.

You want me to continue to labor for you after you fire me? Fine, let's draw up a consultancy contract . I will name my "fair" price.

Sure, some people don't want confrontation or have no choice because they want their package and submit to the degrading treatment. But for me, this goddamned company is not going to take my backbone and pride. I'll walk out on my own terms thank you very much.

Imagine what would happen if the boss realized in the coming days that he still needs something from the poor guy.

Is O going to:

ask/beg/hire him back?

or

threaten him to get what they want?

sadistic or not, I think a lot of people will have common sense to the asswipe to F'OFF if the individual knew he/she was being chopped that day.

What's the worst that can happen to the individual if they did that? Get fired? haha.

Tell the BS artist to give me my walking papers, grab the picture of the wife and kids from my desk and throw them the damn badge and walk out and be happy ever after.

If HR knew the manager did this, he or she would be shown the door.

The guy must have been lied to about being safe and then betrayed.

Who in their right mind would "finish his work" and then get rif'ed?

Also, they must be very desperate, who in their right mind would trust a person about to be laid off to "finish his work"?

In Austin there were a few strategic firings but no layoffs...so far. This is only on the Tech side though.

Could be a bloodbath tomorrow. I just got my comp plan so I guess I'm safe..maybe.

Where do you work btw?
