Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

I hope you all find something that makes you happy

I liked this long post, found it here: @NyIiJ3u-1rhe so I am reposting: Being laid off was the best thing to happen to me. When I interviewed with Humana I was so excited for the opportunity and what this " would mean" for career advancement. When I took the job I even said out loud- well if this doesn't work out, it will look great on a resume! Then, the job started and I saw it for what it really is. Some members I felt like I truly helped make a difference to their health and wellbeing. Other members, the requirements of the job and MOC I felt like every day I was jepoomy integrity to do the job the way Humana wanted us to.

Every day I struggled with how is this the right thing to do with those members who we label " resistant ". The ones who wanted to be actively involved made the job better, it's what I was hired to do. I had huge internal struggles of "forcing" members to stay in the program, offer all these services, do the surveys, or even keep them on the phone for 5 minutes to get to count the call as successful, our coach wouldn't allow us to close members, and the few we'd ask to close because they continuously said stop calling, our coach would just pass them to a different person on the team to get the same result. I got joy out of helping the few I did but I felt more like this job was intrusive and disrespectful to people. If anyone on our team mentioned concerns we were told we were being negative.

The MI out coach used just made you feel like why am I even bringing concerns to my supervisor, so eventually we all stopped speaking up. If you didn't drink the kool aid and talk the Humana talk 24/7 you were viewed as negative. If you had thoughts, concerns, or questions you were viewed as negative. This site has been so refreshing to see that out of hundreds of us, I'm not alone and those feelings and situations are real across the board. I do miss some of my members, but I feel so much relief now that im gone. My new job actually does to focus on the client and their needs. I was telling my new supervisor it's so weird for me to not have to roll with resistance and that if a client says they don't want a certain service but wants another- it's so strange that it's okay!! We are so conditioned to work the Humana way, that now that I'm gone, it's like adjusting to not being in a cult again!

There is life outside of Humana, the work we tried to do there has so much value and it's a shame that the reality of corporate greed trumps being a true care managers. I hope you all find something that makes you happy, and thank you for validating that our team wasn't the only ones feeling/ seeing the company for what it really is

I agree. If the job works for you and your family keep it. Otherwise look for something else. No loyalty at this company anymore.

Do you honestly think they care about your opinion or anyone else's on here? They don't listen at the office what makes you think this website will be any better? Lions don't care about the opinion of the sheep. Their only concern is that they squeeze every last penny of profit out of the front line employees to bump share values and increase their bonus. Not enough members doing surveys? Then let's raise premiums and cut benefits so that leadership's income doesn't take the hit. How else do you explain cuts and layoffs after Aetna gave us a $2 billion dollar gift? Of that's right, BB gave himself a $9 million dollar raise last year so of course we have to cut corners now. Like any company the Ceo's only care about themselves.

Of course every company sometimes makes bad decisions, and sometimes employees pay the price. The frustration lies in when SO MANY employees are saying "MAYDAY", and the bad decisions continue. No one is listening to the "member facing" employees who are getting tons of negative feedback. Listen or don't, crunch the numbers, prepare spread sheets. Employees and members are leaving in droves....

Sheer negativity? Read the OP post again. It ends on a hopeful note, as do many posters who have shared posts of their improved situations elsewhere.

You are dismissing posters' messages because they include very real frustrations expressed within their stories and experiences. They get enough of that type of shutting down at work.

It's not input. There is a difference between input and just sheer negativity. The constant negativity is truly helping NO ONE!

If you are willing to dismiss associates' input - which may include dissatisfaction or frustration- as "emotional knee jerk responses," your message loses credibility.

I am not one who is convinced management is responsible for the condescending, dismissive posts that show up regularly in response to associates venting frustrations. There are plenty of "rah rah Humana" associates to go around, and that's fine too, but it is okay to vent, too. Healthy even - especially in an environment where many can not vent, or even question such practices as refusing to let members decline.

There is enough bashing or reprimanding of employees for being "negative" for asking questions or expressing frustrations within Humana's work environment. No need to stifle their voices here as well.

It's funny, when someone offers a voice of reason based on pure business knowledge rather than emotional knee jerk responses, they are immediately deemed as Management. Paranoid much? I was talking to someone in management the other day, someone I am friends with outside of work. Yes they know about this site but no one pays attention to it. MR doesn't stalk it and neither do directors and coms. As I was told, "Ain't no one got time for that nonsense!"

By the way, yes I was impacted. Yes my job was tough at times. I am thankful for my 2 years. I gained knowledge and experience. I learned what to look for in a new company. I come back to this site from time to time just to keep up with changes. I appreciate the insight and zupport, but the paranoia has to end.

The company made some bad business decisions. It happens in every large corporation. The ACA collapsed. There is currently no replacement which has created instability across the health insurance field. Yes Congress came up with a replacement but it's terrible so the Senate is giving it a go. Our leaders are in flux waiting to hear what's next and trying to go ahead as gingerly as possible. The pendulum will swing back eventually. You can either ride it out or look elsewhere. It would benefit everyone to set aside the constant complaining and paranoia. Find real solutions. Lift each other up rather than keeping each other down. Let's find the rays of sunshine instead of pointing out every dark cloud!

I think we all felt this way in the beginning. But the money grubbing unethical folks at the top stole our joy.
