sorry to those who got affected this week but just wanted to point out that the prediction of 10-20K was WAAAAYYYY off base and overblown and led to unnecessary ulcers and anxiety for a lot of people over the last few months. WTF YO?

I didn't mean to minimize your being laid off.
It's certainly a big deal for anyone to loose their livelihood.
Suffice to say that this has been a stressful event for everyone both who just got the axe and those who have to keep looking over their shoulders, hence I suppose that led to the OP's rant.
@NBfCxzy-jfd is probably right.
That's what happened earlier this year. They riffed a whole bunch in January, and every few weeks like clockwork, they get rid of more. So no one is safe and have to keep looking over their shoulders for a while I guess.
I wish you the best of luck in getting a new gig (if you are still looking) or for some a happy retirement (as I know a lot of people in this category and would probably start retirement early if they get cut and leave this damn industry for good).
So much for loyalty and companies taking care of their workers. That era has passed and it's every man/woman for him/her self. I have to teach myself that this goes both ways and I don't need to feel bad about it especially when something comes along that's to my benefit. At this point, if a good opportunity comes my way, I am outta there that minute. Maybe with 0 notice. Turnabout is fair play right?
For the most part, a lot of the people I interact with are decent and good folks that I like, have personal friendships with and respect, but the damn culture in this company is beyond toxic and the "rules" defy common sense. DD's "please read and abide by" semi-monthly nonsense anyone? I've worked for many companies, but big O comes across as especially cold and heartless.
Again, I am not trying to downplay anyone getting laid off. But perhaps as a silver lining to your experience, have comfort in knowing that you no longer are exposed to the toxic, cold and heartless O.

I am not sure it's over. There are still people that I thought would be laid off, older people who worked on fusion on-premise software that have been marginalized the last few years.
I think this will go on, a little at a time for a while.
I am wondering what is the legal definition of "layoff"? MH seems to say there is no layoff? So, is there some number to stay under where the term "layoff" doesn't need to be applied?
If they remove 1000/month for the next few months.... can they then get around the use of the term layoff?
I think this is going to continue. These guys are always versed on the legal-ese of the situation. Maybe they don't want it to look like a layoff, so if they keep the numbers low, and continue to do that over and over, they can get rid of 10K people without every mentioning the word layoff?

The OP is criticizing the fear mongering about 20K being laid off which turned out not to be true YO. The OP was not talking about @NBfCxzy-xuv, he even said "sorry" to those who laid off. It's in the first sentence.
