Being laid off is much preferable to what I went through last year. I was sabotaged, lied to, harassed, manipulated, etc, until I finally quit in disgust. It was intensely stressful.

I had gotten 4s and 5s out of 5 on my reviews, had gotten really large bonuses in the past and was a really good engineer. I was older, though, more expensive and in the U.S.

In the last year, I wrote a kick-a-- js editor for the cloud and was attacked by people that wanted it in addition to my manager, who wanted to get rid of me. He was Indian and had a large group of Indian developers I suspect he wanted to expand.

It's unbelievable that they can get away with doing all the things they were doing. But it appears the upper management is OK with it, so is HR. Apparently, you can't sue for harassment in general. You have to be in a protected category and prove that the harassment was specifically because you are in that category.

If someone wants to make you quit or take over a project from you, they can do almost anything to you. It's all completely legal. It's sick, very sick.
