Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

2017 allstate layoffs

Tx Claims leader (over all of tx) laid off adjusters by having them all conference in by phone, them reading a script advising they have all been laid off, lady day will be August 14. Then says that is the end of the speech, and everyone is told "have a great day, that concludes this meeting" then click. People who have been with the company for 10, 20, 20+ years.

I'm certain HR isn't answering questions due to liability concerns. I can tell you it's sad what an organization of this magnitude has done to the employees in regards to severance. In our state if you were provided severance (in this case not physically provided thus far of course) then your unemployment benefits are delayed until all severance is exhausted. So if you have documentation stating that you are being provided 8 weeks severance than you can not collect your unemployment until 8 weeks has passed. That said, the company that you have worked so hard for has just nailed you into having absolutely no income coming in your door for 8 weeks because they for whatever reason have decided to wait for 8 weeks to provide the severance packages to the employees affected by the workforce reduction. Very nice. And, how the hell they are hiring after a mass layoff is beyond me. To hire outside of the organization and not the people that were affected for the same positions is insulting. We will see what transpires on day 60. As far as I can tell when day 61 hits those release forms are null and void.

NE Hr point of contact - the last idiot you are sent to when inquiring about severance in the New England Region - is clueless - typical of Allstate - no one knows what is going on, you are re-directed to someone else with any and most questions, and the idiot you end up with can't provide answers....Brandon Lester in NE region was not only inept but caustic - and he is the HR lead one is supposed to go to for issues....but is obviously so deep into the pants of CEO that he can't function properly. Pathetic and embarrassing!

So thankful that I got out when I did. Saw the writing on the wall. Able to retire and have Allstate as a distant memory. What a horrible company they have become.

This is a dying profession . The days of the staff field appraiser are numbered. The auto damage industry will be handled by mostly DRP and office handled image appraisals with a few field appraisers left to handle the high severity comp stuff and/or DRP reinspections. I have bee a staff appraiser for 20 years, was let go unceremoniously in 2008 and it took me 8 years to find a staff job. Now my current company is really pushing the photo appraisal process and I can only hope they will keep me when we go all digital

Texas here...No impacted field adjusters that received the layoff notice in my unit has been contacted about the Quik Foto inside jobs and they applied last week when this all happened. You'd think they would have been transitioned into those roles immediately. Be ready for the 2nd wave of layoffs 4th quarter . They're still not done with us.

Yeah, how many layoffs nationwide. I have read 750 and 5000, Which is it?

Also, I have seen many posts stating performance was not a factor. What was?

I'm an x-employee who retired with nearly 36 years under my belt. It was the last couple years that s---ed. For most of the years, I believed in, defended and was molded by Big A. The IT FACTOR I once held for the company dropped fast and hard those last few years. I see the cheesy crud has continued, and is, if not, worse. All those affected; once the shock is absorbed, be happy that this happened. Go on and go better with your life. There is life after Allstate!

A word of truth here -

Last week Allstate made an announcement that it was closing the Quincy Mass office of Encompass and moving Encompass Property operations to Glens Fall, NY . Allstate is also closing its California Commercial Office and moving that work to Dallas, Texas.

Allstate has two primary centers for Digital Operations and eight other smaller offices staged across many locations. ALL effected auto field personnel are given first call on those jobs some 260 of them -- many with relocation assistance. ALL Digital Operations jobs will be filled with impacted employees FIRST. No inside promotions , no laterals from other departments and no outside hires until all impacted employees that wish to apply have had an opportunity to do so. Additionally, impacted employees have first call on any other jobs in any other discipline where the job is open and, again, relocation assistance may be available.

This is a very competitive business and technology is the way of the future in many - if not most - lines of work. Any one know where I can find carbon paper or polaroid film? That's what I used when I started handling claims. It is an adapt or die world. I have the right to say this because MY office was closed by Allstate a few years ago. Was it handled well? No, it was not. Was it the right business decision? Yes, it was. Do I wish things were different and I still had the job I enjoyed so much? Yes, I do. But what would the ultimate outcome have been if Allstate had not made the decision to operate more efficiently? Ultimately - death of the organization. We are not the only large carrier making these changes - State Farm, GEICO , Progressive - many of my contacts in those companies have told me that they are making preparations to follow the same path. Be ready, be willing and be able is my best advise to ANYONE in ANY business to day - adapt or perish.

What is extremely disappointing about how this was executed was that performance was apparently not a factor. I am not sure what message is being sent to the current employees? There was always a belief that if you were a high performer, that even if layoffs hit, the lower performers would be let go. Or, that a higher performer would be "taken care of" and offered a different role. That does not appear to be the case here. This sends a poor message to current employees, particularly with some of the new initiatives such as CI. What does it say about how much this company truly values a superior customer service experience when they laid off some of the best employees at delivering that type of service? Early returns on QFC are also not very strong. Rough waters ahead for sure.

Glenn Shapiro is weaving Tom Wilson's Golden Parachute by imploding the company and artificially pumping up the stock.I sure hope Mr Wilson received a call from the Man in the Whitehouse inquiring why he was letting go four thousand employees while the company is earning record profits of multiple "Billion" Dollars per year over the last few years.F-You Tom and double F-You Glenn.

Love, a soon to be ex-employee and soon to be ex-customer.Yes,I am pulling my auto, home owners, life and umbrella business and going elsewhere. What a bunch of douche bags.Oh yea, one last thing, This text had now ended and have a great afternoon...

Over 700 on 6/14/2017, tenured and faithful employees that deserved more than a scripted conference call in which you were told that if you were on the call, you are being laid off, that is all, have a great day.

I hope Shapiro and his grand plan for the "virtual claim center" fails. I hope severitie's go through the roof, supplements from shops get out of control, mass lawsuits, the stock plummets and he get's fired.
