Strange question, but every Kmart I have been in lately has a very distinctive, strong odor. It's kind of like a perfume/air freshener/deodorizer scent, unlike anything I have smelled elsewhere. It is in different sections of the store, but mostly along the back wall. I never smelled this in a Sears store until today. I was in a desolate corner of the store near the curtains, and there was that same strong odor. I didn't smell it anywhere else in this particular Sears. Can anyone shed some light on this important topic?

If it's.something other than the scent satchets, Sears probably panicked and bought industrial-grade air freshener to mask the smell of mold from all of the roof leaks.
Air freshener and having the QMT throw up a coat of paint over water stains is a lot cheaper than mold abatement and replacing the roof, you see.

Air freshener? Just now started using it? My eye! My money is on a slow but steady infusion of Zyclon B.
It's scent sachets. They're to put in your dresser drawers to keep clothes smelling fresh. We have hundreds of them, on clip strips throughout the entire store.
I'VE HAD THIS SAME QUESTION!! I think I narrowed it down to an air freshener our store had in home fashions. Ours was on a strip clip and in a light blue bag. It's probably hidden everywhere because no one knew where it went.
Floor cleaner they use to strip and rewax floors has a strong floral scent to mask the caustic chemical smell.

Probably the air freshner that they put in the restrooms. Or those packages of air freshner in the Home Fashion Dept. Just sayin
