Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

A former Support Center Manager

Reading the posts on this thread is terrible. My site was laid off last year but we had face to face contact with HR and the higher ups who pulled all of us into rooms according to last name, they went through the severance package with us and let us ask any questions we had. I was glad I got to ask the questions I had because it made me feel better about how I could comfort my employees and my team during that difficult time. That was a very hard day and I did not think they handled that very well but to see that these employees received a 10 minute scripted conference call informing them that they were losing their jobs, they didn't even get to respond or speak during the conference call and were told to "have a nice day." What kind of company can sleep at night knowing they are treating their faithful and loyal employees who have given them their fortune, like absolute sh--? Having to let go of your employees for whatever business reason is one thing but to do it the way they did is just so tacky and heartless. A company that was once known as one of the best is very quickly becoming one of the worst and it is all due to the poor treatment of their employees who have done nothing wrong. My heart goes out to everyone involved. A company that tries to engrave and focus on taking care of their customers, should really start focusing on taking care of their employees or they will have no customers left. What a shame!

Frankly, HR dropped the ball when my site got closed. They messed up the packages, had poor recruiters, didn't not have all the relevant information and offered no support to help staff process what had just happened to them. A VP blew in and out of town in less than 30 minutes and didn't stick around to support us, the senior managers, when we called the staff together. Coward.

Glad your unfortunate experience went better.
