Market positions to be eliminated

50+ market position on the chopping block. Going back to Districts. 1 DM with 12-16 stores depending on volume. Maps redrawn. Will save big $$$$

Speaking from experience the "market leaders" are largely useless. All reports and metric ARE available in an aggregated format. I seriously doubt any of them are smart enough to pull them.

whats a markt position?

True. But honestly those managers are doing it wrong. It's meant to be a tool that managers use to provide feedback and encouragement. Unfortunately, in the circumstances we're working in, it's pretty impractical either way...

@1tmx its different with me atleast the more they bug me for numbers the more I don't want to do it. Its annoying they make it seem like we aren't trying. We ask the customer for a credit app/s2h/PA/SPP/lease you name it they either will say yes or no. Some days are better than others its common sense that they should chill about this. It just becomes a hostile environment when all they do is bug and scream at you why the #'s arent happening.

Wdi- exactly. It would make sense if we were better staffed. But as a manager in an understaffed store I spend 90% of my day actually helping customers who would otherwise not be helped at all.

@NViJfNj-1tmx and this is the exact same reason why the DMs ask your managers to send them the stores numbers.

The reason the managers run around collecting numbers is because the more often we ask about credit and PAs and such, the more associates tend to care about their own metrics. Not that even that justifies it anyway, since we are way too understaffed to have time for that.

For a company that is so big on "embracing change and technology", the IT department should be capable of aggregating all of the different reports (sales, PAs, SYW, credit, KYM...etc...etc...etc) into one report to be delivered to the DM on an hourly, automated basis instead of the managers spending about a half hour or more going around getting numbers and cranking out an email.

Most of those reports are based on SQL, which is a powerful, flexible thing if you know how to use it.

the funny part about the last post ... ASM sending emails about the stores numbers to the DM .. we all that work at sears know that the numbers are out there for each and every store that the DM can look up for themselves they are just to lazy to do so ... just put it on the rest of the people to look it up , I understand they do this so the stores know their own numbers and what is going on in their stores... but they should already know what is going on inside their own stores we don't need a DM to tell us whats going on we know .... good riddens to all the DM's IMO its a waist of payroll

SM's do take some of the pressure and paperwork load off of the ASM's. Our store went two years without a SM and I thought our ASM's were going to lose it. All they did was walk around and fill out paperwork for metrics, email the DM with sales figures, metrics, credit card, SYW, and took conference calls They never got any work done or even supervised anyone.

Now that we have a SM the ASM's actually have time to supervise the associates and work on the floor.

OMG completely agree our store manager has no clue what is going on in the store nor with his people in the store he spends his entire day in his office telling everyone he is on a conference call to get out of helping on the floor or with manager calls ... the man is clueless he couldn't even turn on the escalators yesterday he called for help.... didn't even know where the keys were to turn them on and he has been in the same store for years truly a waste of payroll

@1ivt

Agree with you 100% I got 1 store manager and 3 managers. Store manager gets paid the most and is the most useless you can cut him and the store would be fine. Funny part store manager has another manager do all his work just sad.

Store managers should be cut and have area managers for BUs. Store managers are just high paid secretaries for most stores they just relay messages from DMs anyway. Most SMs don't know what actually goes on in the store. SMs are mascots now.

errr how many big bucks will it save sunshine? The company loses $7 million a day every day -will those savings be equal to 15 mins of losses or 10 mins?
