Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel has been run by Muttering Morons of Marketing for 12 years ...

Twelve years ago the last PhD material scientist was shown the door, completing the transition from competant executives to morons in the corner office. Today the company has nobody at the helm other than Pepsi Cola marketeers. The company hasn't been run by PhDs since 2008, when Craig Barrett stepped down.

In the next 12 months Intel will see 5 years' worth of overdue layoffs - from Christmas 2017 until Christmas 2018. My son just yesterday built an AMD 1700X PC with AMD Rx580 graphics - total cost, $1300 - and there is NOTHING made by Intel in his computer and it's fast as blazes and he loves it!

It will be beyond painful for those at Intel in the coming years. The longer they delayed addressing the real issues the more painful.

It is now beyond the tipping point and amputation is going to be required to survive even as just a skeleton of its old self, sad indeed how management and BoD let his happen.

My used car salesman told me the car i was looking at was the best deal he had seen in the last ten years. Went on to say it was perfectly maintained by the past 3 owners and if i bought it i wouldnt be single much longer cause the babes would love me. Car drove about six months and then the brakes went. Then the ac went. Then then blue smoke out the rear. Worry about looming intel layoffs and a blown up car leaving me cash poor for dates and a dubious future had the girlfriend doubting my future. Finally some dude from a startup with a brand new BMW took the girl off my hands (which isnt that bad really). Leson learned. Dont believe recruiters, HR or used car salesman without doing independent research. Dont date women who love your career or car.

Recruiters sold me the fact that Intel had more 'genius level' people working at it than any other company in the world. I'll just leave that there.

If it were only as easy as bringing back PhDs to the executive suite of Intel.

Reality is that Intel needs transformation on several levels: Strategy, culture and execution. The company is deeply broken. Management is weak and mistrusted. Other than milking the x86 cash cow and acting as a monopolist, how will Intel make money in the future? How will it get there? How will it attract and retain the BEST technical minds?

Lou Gerstner, who basically saved IBM, wasn't a technical guy. But helped the company get back on track culturally and strategically.

The next few years are going to be painful but necessary for Intel.

When A players leave, the B players hire C players to make themselves look good in comparison.

This continues until all you are left with are idiots.

You can see the results today.

Reality TV, drones, sports etc ...

it's like idiocracy came true at Intel.

@fuf nailed it. The idiocy runs deep at the highest level of Intel, made worse by the continuing and inexplicable promotion of so many people to VP. And with that many idiots, a culture of making bad decisions is established.

Murthy may have solid educational credentials but he's still an idiot.

We are more of an engineering company making chips like Qcomm, AMD, Nvidia, even TSMC, which are our competitors, than companies making end products, like Apple or Nokia, which are our customers. I'm not saying marketing is not important, but as PSO said in our hey days, if our products (chips) are good, you don't need much marketing and they sell by themselves. The engineering team has been engaged with our customers for years, so we know what the customer wants, and what the market trend is. I don't think we know less marketing than our competitors. IMO, our problem is that our execution is worse than our competitors. For that, I think the leaders of the architecture and engineering teams have to take responsibility.

B$ from San Jose State commanding the Titanic and chasing yesterday's fad as tomorrow's savior. More ACTs are but certain!

Before that an arrogant MBA who turned down Apple.

CRB was no Eisenstein as he was arrogant and it was on his watch the real opportunity to start reinvention was missed. He wasted billions on many failed aquisitions! Don't confuse his Stanford lineage and PhD for brilliance. The academic legacy made him arrogant and on his watch was when the slide started.

After Andy if has been all down hill with the three stooges CRB, PSO and BK.

So engineering was never asked to improve anything?

Or engineering simply didn't manage to improve things and now prefers to blame marketing?

Which of these explanations sounds more likely?

Nokia was run into the ground from being market leader by ultra-competent technical experts who did not understand what the average human being needed. Apple on the other hand was made the most valuable company in the world by someone without major technical skills. So please tell me again how technical competence is the most important thing for the CEO of a company like Intel.

The problem with Intel's management is not that they are lacking technical competence. The problem is that they are idiots. And so is everyone who thinks that the most technically competent person should be the manager or that Intel needs a PhD at the helm to be successful.

As testament to what sort of idiots are running the company, Intel released the Iris Pro Graphics in 2013. Here it is - 4 years later - and Intel has not been able to beat their own mobile GPU chip FOR FOUR GODDAMN YEARS! Yep, well when marketeers run the company, they just introduce new product names and never ask engineering to actually IMPROVE anything, they just want a different set of confusing GPU names - NONE OF THEM WORK VERY WELL - to hype, for every new generation of chip ...

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Iris-Pro-Graphics-6200.125593.0.html

There is the IRIS Pro 6200, included in nothing at all.

There is the IRIS Pro P580 and 580, they eat too much power and are only for workstations.

NO PROGRESS FOR FOUR WHOLE YEARS!

THIRTY FOUR INTEL GPUS INTRODUCED!

NOT A SINGLE ONE IMPROVES ON THE 2014 MODEL !!

WTF Intel ?!?!
