Thread regarding IBM layoffs

It's unfair to bash IBM as a single entity

I scanned all comments on the front page here. Please note, IBM has about 380,000 employees right now, they are working with different technologies, in different industries, they leverage a large technologies, people have different roles and most projects are different if compared to the peer group of projects.

With this being said, IBM has some great opportunities and working for some groups simply s---s....

All I want to say here, it's unfair to bash IBM as a single entity (which is what I am seeing here on layoffs.com after scanning the front page for IBM)

Ok, continually declining revenues, terrible business decisions (PWC), inability to make acquisitions work, inability make cloud work, cutting business units and people who are operating successfully, and massive layoffs in never ending waves that is no longer working in shoring up earnings..

....... from this multiple entity company.

There better?

This escalated quickly - I love this board, it has more passion and flair than other IBM related interactive venues I visit daily.

Keep those sharp comments peeps, often you make my day...

BTW, EVERY SINGLE RESPONSE was ON TARGET!!!

To each of us employees, IBM is a single entity. I work for a single company. I don't care which unit is doing well or poorly because that doesn't affect me. Whether I work in a "successful" or "unsuccessful" unit, I'm treated the same - poorly - and I could lose my job any day. There is a single top management team, and it's not telling me the truth anyway about which units are doing well. There's a single driver of confusion and chaos and it affects us all. Besides, the leadership of each unit must be irrelevant because they keep changing every 6 months or so. So if you believe in IBM as individual units, you're getting all of your information from IBM propaganda and not the real world.

In my career I have been made redundant a couple of times. Ultimately a company will not care about it's employees. With IBM, things are being drawn out over an extended period, making the pain last and last. There is a permanent fear of headcount reductions everywhere - not just at the beginning of each year which is bad enough but you never know what's happening after the end of each quarter.

you are obliviously an IBMer and drinking the kool-aid or if you are not then you need to realize that everyone person that posts on this site after numerous hard years of busting butt, long nights and weeks of putting IBM first and then you and your family second has been left holding nothing ... instead of being let go, or being given some BS line about reorgs, reshfts etc none of this has been done with a shred of decency everything is about top mgmt holding on to their large paychecks while the rest of as are left with nothing

That is the line management is getting away with. They keep saying look at cloud results not total results, sure the cloud revenue is just GTS revenue rebranded but focus on that number. Fact is that IBM has already lost 25% of revenue in the last 5 years and there is only so much GTS revenue they can rebrand.
