Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

No cashiers or floor clerks, so you just walk out, right? Magnet for five-finger discount shoppers!

I can't wait to see the security robot chasing the real life shoplifters running out the front door of the cashier-less stores with baskets full of high-dollar wine, steaks and seafood. It'll be a thieves' paradise with even fewer obstacles to free stuff. Woo hoo!

I could see Wfm do My a membership style similar to Costco, where you do have to have a membership to go in. You can pay certain ways, but with a prime memebership have incentives for discount and show on your way out you paid, transitioning until their is little need for cashiers cameras would also see who may have stole based on presenting the membership and tweak tha way while dwindling the number of cashiers to match cash purchasing

On another note target is using some technology to drive in store sales, there just sent me custom coupons. All 40 coupons are items I have bought , for in store only purchase most at 25% and guess what I bet me the no time for coupons person will use all 40 of them. amazon is working on something that blocks you from online price comparing while in a store and will activate promotional savings coupons like this when you start to browse other retailers.

So the store becomes a members-only warehouse? No, this technology isn't used all over Asia. Apparently YOU forgot, it's supposed to be ground-breaking. It doesn't work. We're not going to require a Prime membership to shop and charge people to browse. We're not going to stop accepting cash. We're not going to turn our floor into a warehouse for Kindles. Jeff Bezos has demonstrated zero understanding of the fresh food business and he just made a colossal mistake when he bought this one, which is clearly in decline. If people want no service they can shop at Sav-a-Lot. But any effort to replace workers with robots will fail and theft is just one of the problems. Looks like the corporate trolls are desperately trying to explain Bezos' horrific mistake already. This should get really entertaining in a 18 months when Amazon spins off all the stores but keeps the brand name.

You pick it up and and it charges your Amazon prime card. You can't even enter in the store without having a the app and a credit card. They have more issues refunding the card if you change your mind. And most of the problems occur when a large no of people are in the store. They'll work it out. This is a common purchasing method in Asia. Sorry to the all uneducated man buns...you're days are numbered by the 'bots

@vex: What do you mean, "you can't walk out?" Try and stop me. You have NEVER worked in a retail store and now someone who has dealt with real life thievery is throwing cold water on the fantasies of nerd engineers. Our security was a JOKE and the only thing that consistently made any difference were lots of floor help and armed security at the front. Wake up Jack.

LOL... Of course there will always be shoplifters. There are plenty of them now, but a whole bunch of them are deterred by humans watching them. Others not so much. Cameras? Hahaha. At our store they operated with impunity. Just try to catch them if you don't have a gun and aren't prepared to use it. The criminals will have no problem ignoring a robot. What are you going to do? Charge people to browse? Set up loud sirens? Use electric fences? What the OP is saying is that fewer eyeballs = more thieves. BTW, perhaps YOU don't understand Amazon Go. News flash: It didn't work. Also set up a cashier-less store in Miami, Atlanta or anywhere else down south. The shelves will soon be empty because thieves down there don't give a flying f$$$ about your special card, or your stupid app, or your robots or your cameras. They will create a disturbance on the international aisle then the A-team will walk past all that with their steaks and others will join them.

That's the point idiot. You can't leave with anything. It's automatically puts it in your Amazon cart the minute you pick it up and you pay. I'm sure there are super theives that can program around this but the average yoga pants mom...not so much
