Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

UK sinking ship?

I left Cisco about a yr ago for a big semi-competitor. We got loads of SE's and sales applicants since xmas, but even more in the last month. We about to offer 2-3 positions to Cisco.

Is the place getting worse?

My manager opened up to me this morning and told me there is no planned LR's in the UK this year. Some people may be asked to refocus, but that's as far as it will go. So don't worry everyone.

Layoffs not happening until August timeframe, then it'll be mysterious, very HR-compliant and totally about personal feuds. As it has always been.

The whole region is a mess. We have a recluse leader, VP's dropping like flys, a new architecture leader who got herself there by who knows what means and more politics then ever. That is before you even mention moral, attrition rates and poor performances. Maybe SC is out of his depth or maybe his team are purposely allowing this to happen. The route to the throne is always bathed in blood.

Isn't Dedijacket a PSS? The stink emanating from bedfont is truly something to behold- it rots from the top down. Well, time to get back inside the pub to tend to spike heels....I may get lucky.

Check this. An uk Enterprise networking pss got a big time just do it award for creating a website on en products - whhooopeeee, should that pss not get an award for selling something? God knows how the leader pushed this to the top. If that is all to come from the new architecture team then oh brothers and sisters. Joke.

@pnz nailed it. PSS in Cisco is a tough place to be, some nice people but very dependent on their CSE's to get anything done!! Smart SE's caught on and bailed! Smart PSS is looking for jobs now hoping for a big paycheck in August.

Problem is who would hire a PSS other then Cisco? The model is a joke. Good luck to them, but I think most will struggle to be taken seriously.

Q "So tell me about a deal you did?"

A "Well after a busy day at the gym, I surfed SFDC and saw a $1m deal in there. I called the AM and asked when it was closing. I then forecasted that to my boss. I got a quarterly award for it."

Q " OK how about another one?"

A "I got a call from an AM saying he needed a presentation to his client on DC. So I called a DC SE to go to the meeting and present. I sat in the meeting and made a joke. I'm sure that's why we closed the deal. I made £15k commission on that one."

@mqq - in that Op SEs have no option to be goaled in alignment with AMs, even though most would welcome that. The leadership imposed a group goal, which has been another factor in the low morale in that team.

Doesn't help when the SE leader is a weaselling tw@t with zero people skills or ability to motivate anyone.

It's not only SE's looking to bail most of sales are in an external interview process currently. No one will leave until the end of this years cull however, in case they are fortunate enough to be selected.

Cisco is not a place for performance recognition, as it is too political now. Anyone who's half decent has left or will leave soon. Those who stay are those who aren't confident in their abilities to succeed outside Cisco or are undesirable hires for other companies ie too old, too long at Cisco, no technical knowledge or understanding beyond infrastructure sales, ambulance chaser/PSS's.

As for the comment about the AM who went to Chairmans Club and the SE who missed goal, I heard that the SE in question contributed little to his success anyway, so why should they be recognised? If SE's want the recognition AM get, simply sign a goal sheet for only the accounts you manage and live and die buy them. Stop complaining because you were to afraid to risk your success by having to own it.

There's certainly a problem somewhere.

From what I hear UK Enterprise has churned between 25-30% of its SE team so far this fiscal. There would have been more but they made deals to keep a few.

Some have transitioned into sales roles but most have gone elsewhere.

They are fed up of carrying AMs and then seeing the AM get the rewards. On one account, the AM went to Chairman's Club, the SE didn't hit goal. I'm not suggesting the AM didn't deserve it (s/he did) but that sort of iniquity hurts morale.

It's not much different in PubSec or Commercial.
