Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

And the numbers are in.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/macys-quarterly-profit-tumbles-39-121849176.html?.tsrc=applewf

I'm going out on a limb to say that we are close to hitting bottom. Worse than expected numbers. Stock dropped $4.00 per share.

Can't wait to see how the decimate the associate numbers this time. This is bad, really bad.

How long before the inevitable bankruptcy filing?

Let's hope this is the last cycle of buying from the past and we will soon see compelling products. The INC popsicle and is completely silly. INC trend jewelry this Q is a joke, falling apart as its unpacked.

Michael Kors events are a joke. We do not get new styles to support repeat business. They toss in a few new styles that got to clearance. The other 20 styles have been the same for 5 years. And the 350.00 tech watch is excluded from discount.

Buy what the customers want. Don't try to force trend based on buying opportunities. Pearls was the Must Have for Q 1 and mothers day really ????? I will have charter club pearlson clearance for years. But I have to send a customer to JCP to purchase a jewelry box l. To Kays for Charms and Pandora. To Von Mar for Alex & Onnie bracelets. To a 80 million dollar store for decent denim. Etc etc etc

Look like 100 more stores should close but that might not be enough.

Bricks and mortar are a in the past.

Merchandise is not appealing to certain age groups or the quality.

Our private brands don't cut it!

Anyone who says this ship will survive is in a dream world!

Time to go folks! Unless you want to hang around for the entertainment value.

I do not like seeing all of the staff still there going through this. Like one of the posters said the job market is good, get out now. Tenured and high performing Sales Managers are in demand in other sectors of retail that are doing well, you CAN find something. I did within 90 days, knowing something worse was on the horizon. Get your resume's updated and begin your search while you still have a job.

Women's Shoes going open sell is going to cut A LOT of jobs. What is needed back there now? Someone they will pay min wage to ring out the customer. The shoe departments with 2-4 people covering the floor are going to be GONE. you will have one opener and one closer, maybe if lucky on the weekends to have a mid shift person. What about in the pilots where the shoe department has a back room dedicated support team? GONE

Sad times ahead friends, I see about 100 more closures, not the 38 they have said. I agree Backstage is not the answer. The fact is nobody has an answer. Their apparel assortment is not right. It is either to young or to old. A good portion of the staff no longer cares (I know what moral was like when I left 45 days ago, I cant even imagine now).

Honestly I was tired of being yelled at and called stupid and an idiot because I had no answers nor could fixed online problems in the store, Trump merchandise people, AND of course Credit Card $2 a month charge issues. My day as an SM was consumed by ringing behind a register in RTW, dealing with 5 plus call outs a day and being on those floors to try and help, and dealing with aggressive horrible people mad at the call center who keeps hanging up on them and online support who does the same, and LP issues. 6 months prior my day did not look like this. I was able to assist customers, coach and train and be on the floors I managed and engage with my team and customers.

SM's are no longer SM's they are glorified fitting room attendants and cashiers and are there to put out the customer 911's. Those 911's used to be far between but now an every hour occurrence.

I was physically sick, not sleeping and was at the point of a mental breakdown. My days were anywhere from 10-12 hours if I was lucky. Macys is not worth your HEALTH or MENTAL WELL BEING. Put yourself first, take care of YOU. And I am sure most of you reading this, understand. Do yourselves a favor and get your life back and move on.

Well I will say this... Thank god we didn't sell to much of our real estate. They creamed JCP for putting those numbers in their earning figures. Now I know we sold some but not as much as others. JCP sold their corporate head quarters and it didn't help any! Ha keep your chin up we will weather the storm!

And now we are closing in on a $6.00 drop in share value. Wow.

Nobody knows what to do. We limp along.

Headlines that indicate we don't know how to fix our stores don't help, either.

Stock still crashing today. CEO stated shoes is going open stock sales by August. That means more positions cut.

Rumors of furniture being moved to a lease department with Ashley Furniture.

Statements of more stores being closed beyond the 38 scheduled.

We hit the iceberg yesterday. Now begins the long slow sink to the bottom of the ocean. Just like Sears.

Our CEO even gets in front of the media to say stupid things, just like theirs!

Many more job cuts are evident. This is the time to exit stage left before the next mass store closings are announced. BACKSTAGE not the answer. This is so sad to watch as management has no clue. The TITANIC is sinking.

Not bankrupt yet. We did make a profit, but the trend is in the wrong direction. We should all be looking to get out now while the job market is good. There is no way that Macy's could hold out very long in a recession.

Didn't expect to see such a death blow today from them. Knew it was gonna be bad, didn't expect this bad. Praying for all my Macys family. If you have an opportunity to get out please do so now! Don't wait around it's only going to get worse and there won't be any packages handed out during the next round of layoffs! I was fortunate enough to get out a few months back knownjnf bad bad times were ahead.

According to Jeff, that's coming.

https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2017/05/11/macys-ceo-not-going-to-say-that-were-not-going-to-close-more-stores.html

We are done. Only a matter of time. Dust off the resume folks, before you get launched without a package.
