Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Union @ Greenville

Greenville is non-union. GE has been trying to escape unions for years by shutting union plants down and moving the jobs to Greenville.

Greenville has been fortunate in that respect. However, Greenville quality is declining due to elimination of seasoned GE employees and hiring contractors for manufacturing jobs (no commitment).

Also, leadership is constantly changing so there is no consistency and/or loyalty. Employees are constantly training the revolving leadership. As the Greenville quality declines the cost is increasing.

Declining gas turbine sales, declining stock prices, declining investor confidence (due to a current major problems with a power product), declining quality, and increasing cost will lead to layoffs in Greenville. GE is good at playing the shell game with money.

But they are running out of shells. Investors are wise enough to read between the lines. And so are some customers.

While manufacturing jobs in GE Power are considered untouchable for GE according to them, many inside believe that GE is going to have to start cutting white-collar jobs, as they are losing millions of dollars everyday. Upper management are worried about their stocks, and it is only a matter of time until the engineers within start to get on the chop block, especially with this 7HA.02 mishap. Engineers, especially in the Greenville SC, Houston, and Atlanta areas. I am pretty sure that these 3 locations were hit in the March cut, and hearing that there will be more, unless something goes right for Immelt, in Fall 2017.

Definitely no confidence in Greenville GE management. Managers are always looking for their next role in lieu of providing stability in their current role. Most are professional meeting performers who develop their gift of gab on a daily basis. Constantly creating new organizational charts and new initiatives that fizzle out with their changing roles. It's a never ending world of bureaucracy that reduces worker efficiency instead of increasing productivity. Non-Value added work is always flowing like a fire hose. Many employees drink the cool aid. Some don't. You have to drink up to succeed.

Immelt continuously wants to promote GE as a "Global" company. He announced this week his intent to double sourcing purchases from Mexico. Let's outsource the CEO and other board members to Mexico, India, and China. Imagine the savings without their rediculous undeserved salaries.

There is no Union in Greenville because South Carolina is an anti Union State. They might well be better off if there were a union, then they could speak to the labor issues collectively, instead you have a bunch of individual disgruntled employees. Two-teir wages, contract labor (MAU), collusion with other companies and the State to suppress wages, labor has no voice! The environment on the shop floor is terrible, no confidence in management whatsoever, failed initiatives Brilliant Factory etc.. What's going on with AMW, does anyone know if they are operational? The (5) top executives @ GE in 2016 made $73,698,405 which works out to $35,432.00 / hr., keep that in mind as they squeeze everything they can out of you. (Jeffrey Immelt's net worth is: $600 million)

Jeff Bornstein

SVP & CFO $7,023,532

GE has known for years that it is in major financial trouble. Assets have been predictably sold to manage earnings reports to investors. The problem GE has now is investors are watching cash flow and the numbers do not appear sustainable. Payday has arrived and GE is in panic mode. Employees will pay the price.

GE is having major problems with both their gas turbine and jet engines. Doesn't help with the investor confidence in GE. GE looks to be in a nose dive.

GE has been promising other governments such as Saudi Arabia, France, and China that it will manufacture or assemble gas turbines in their region to secure sales. Greenville jobs have been divided between those countries and others for years. Adding rooftops in multiple regions with low gas turbine market volume cannot sustain a positive cash flow unless money is flowing from ways contrary to Integrity. GE Greenville will continue to downsize especially since the Saudi Arabia plant is operational.

Anytime the Union tries to visit Greenville GE calls the police and goes in full panic mode. Maybe a Union would help keep GE Greenville from farming out jobs to temporary agencies like MAU. Employees deserve commitment.

Immelt announced that GE is going to increase purchases from Mexico. Mexico does not compete against the same Safety and Environmental regulations as US suppliers are required to follow. GE doesn't care if fatalities or environmental issues occur as long as they save a dime. In fact, GE fatalities are increasing at an alarming rate.

CEO Jeffrey Immelt expects the reductions to pick up speed later in the year. What could Immelt possibly mean by that? You have been warned as he works on his bonus.

More BAD news for GE - Layoffs will be soon:

Does this mean pensions will be cut also?

Deutsche Bank downgraded General Electric to sell from hold, cutting its price target on the industrial conglomerate to 24 from 28. Analyst John Inch cited "weak earnings quality" that's reflected in a wide gap between noncash and cash earnings. He sees pension underfunding and ultra low tax rates as earnings hurdles.
