Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Hiring G8/9

In our group we are only hiring G8/9. No more senior roles. G12 is the most targeted grade for LRs. G11s can step up to perform G12 duties at the lower compensation.

No, at least for the technical track, grade 12 was a speed bump thrown in the career path to save money. I waited 7 years at grade 11 before getting grade 12. I won't go into details, but I'm currently doing high level, strategic, business planning for my BU - on top of very deep technical consulting - while all the PE/DE crowned in yesteryear look at me google-eyed from the bench.

Age bias is a SV BS. So G12, no matter what your age, is an unnecessary grade between managers and directors. Job of G12s can easily be taken care of by 11s. So once you hit 11 in Cisco look for a job outside as you are jumping from 11 to 13 until this whole grade bs is banished.

I had a chance to become a G12 with no reports last year. Ummm.....no, thank you. Third man on a match (look it up).

No, with the upcoming restructure, the plan isn't to hire US based at all. Their thinking is to get rid of an engineer in the US, and hire a replacement in India. Save money and get somebody working on something new. No hiring in the US - even cheap ones, and no reassigning the talent. Just fire them and pull in somebody new.

"The People Deal" is also the name of North Korea's missile testing program...

I've heard a BUs that unloaded all their G13s and some DEs. Talk about motivating G10s/11s/12s for career advancement (continue to advance and then you're laid off!).

It should motivate the next generation to learn something along the way. Zero hardware, software and systems knowledge combined with bad instincts and an active resistance to learning is the hallmark of too many in the leadership and far more need to go.

P.D. is intentional. A feel good illusion without substance.

Rah Rah at the "The Beat."

All those people laid off? The gloom that hangs over your head every 3 months? ... Nothing to see here. We have the People Deal. All is OK.

If csco is to survive as a going ship for more than 5 years

....thin the executive ranks

....make all pe de work on products than poc concepts pptx

...invest in real internal new hw sw rather always looking to clone old sw and merchant chips. The current xr nxos codebase is probably too far a mess to salvage...

...reduce number of meaningless exec beats nd town halls make them work on real products nd plans than just talk talk talk

Finally

Bring back the visible perf reviews ...hiding them and not having reviews is the worst thing for morale. I hv no idea how i stand wrt to my grade. Mgrs and dirs hide behind closed doors.

Lots of DEs & CTOs are just dead weights All they do is travel around and talk fluffy marchitectures & strategies. And the favorite topic for the female DEs is women in tech BS. Keep them around and cisco will sink even faster.
