Some managers in UCS group have sent out 1:1 to ALL employees for tomorrow!

A few people in Costa Mesa and Lawrenceville have theirs. We got late word today that the video contracts with US and Canadian cable providers will be spun down, scaled down, or handed off to a Cisco partner like Comcast or AT&T.

there are 1:1's schedule for the 18th in the US and many other countries. Europe and some of the countries won't get notified for a while as their are EU approvals that are necessary.

This will be an odd timing for LR as it may (probably) short people their annual bonus at the end of July and stock that vests in September. We will see tomorrow.

Personally not heard of anything in Europe yet. I think it might come after US.

Our whole group got ours. We've known for months though, so it's not a surprise. We were more worried we wouldn't get laid off and a package this time.

Got a 1:1 on March 9. The actual title of the invite should be LR.

I think it's an HR rule that they can't tell you that it's a termination meeting.

Call it a Workforce Reduction (WFR), Limited Restructuring (LR), Reduction in Force (RIF), or whatever politically correct term HR wants to use, it's still a Layoff.

I've had the dubious honor of working at many companies who've had layoffs and it's the same no matter what HR calls it. When I was younger, I was fortunate enough that my terminations were due to a company going out of business and everyone was impacted, or an entire business unit was shutdown and everyone in that BU was terminated. Then I got to Cisco and watched people in the bottom 5% get terminated. But I also saw good people railroaded into being in the bottom 5% so they could be terminated. You knew it was coming, but you couldn't do anything about it. Now, it's cost related, which is really age related as you're inexpensive as a junior employee, and you don't see it coming. It can happen any year, or even any quarter now.

Last round of layoffs, the 1:1s were sent out a few days before earnings.

My 1:1 invite was sent 15 min before the year-end earnings call. Manager sent it and bolted out the door. Zero responses to inquiries via e-mail or txt asking for the topic of the 1:1. It was pretty obvious what it was.

You're getting hung up on a date. Fact is 18th might be true for the States but not for other countries.

Having a ring side view into this season's LR circus, I believe it is just a miracle that the co has customers and there's even a score to measure their satisfaction. Somebody draws a list, some other decides. There's no thought given to talent retention, effect on work, on the team, etc. Maybe the only grace is that other cos are not any better.

Yes, and last night, landed in the in-box is the latest survey results from the "real deal" - a survey of "real" employee attitudes. Of course, it's all mindlessly positive. All about how much fun it is to work yourself to death over 12 time zones and how constant worry about being laid off makes this a well deserved "great place to work" award recipient in Upper Congo. But my favourite was the "we use clever technologies to interpret your written comments. This means we can quantify the sentiment of your responses." Well, I also use a very clever technology to understand the sentiments of my employees' written responses, and it's called READING THEM.

Not sure of your details, but there is a round coming on Thursday (at least in the US). I would be prepared, but don't let it define you.

I haven't. I don't know anyone who has.

But...

People are anxious.

I hope nothing happens.

I am sick of this annual culling game...
