Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

are there any rumors about layoffs in engineering?

I would think there would be layoffs planned for engineering also, as there are a lot of older people with non-web experience still. Does anyone know about layoffs in engineering to support the cloud better?

Judging by Oracle's internal "self service" apps, they do not have much modern web knowledge there. :)

But behind any web/cloud application are plain old databases and issues like scalability and 24/7 uptime. Oracle's tech has never been able to deliver in those areas. This is not flashy web stuff, it is boring backroom devops.

We can say that the OPC products matured by now, BM yet to come. The main reasons OPC failed to gain traction were lack of features/unstable and lack of service expertise within Oracle. Pre-sales would not be able to implement required architectures, while some of the ones they did implement were lost soon after by support, as the cloud customers run away when they see the ongoing quality support has to offer. Seems like these will get addressed starting June 1st.

Surely the problem here is that someone has to recognise/admit that there are "cloud products that are failing to get traction".

If you want to have a future as an engineer and ever find a job with another company, you need to look for another job now

Yes. If you work with on-prem products, you need to find another job. If you are working on cloud products that are failing to get traction, you need to find another job.
