Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Patterns

Got LRed at 56. When they walked us out the door I turned around and it looked like the demographics of people leaving the men's room at a Garth Brooks concert. Grey hair, male pattern baldness and distinctly white.

So.....since it is well known that Cisco targets those that are 50+ (it is all over these boards, for example), where are the lawsuits? I really would like to understand..... (I'm expecting the answer is "lack of proof", circumstantial, etc....) but again, it is so obvious.

The problem is trying to fight the agreement you signed when you accepted the offer of employment to agree to arbitration instead of a lawsuit. First you have to fight that, then fight & prove age discrimination.

Cisco has enough lawyers on retainer that it's not worth it in the long run as your lawyer will eat up most of what you win, IF you win. My BU, like someone else posted, let go just enough token young people to be able to reasonably say it wasn't age discrimination and that it was a "cost" issue. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, the "cost" issue directly tied to age. Older workers cost more because you get more experience and qualifications in return.

There were NO 30-somethings at ANY of the sessions I had with the company who provided job search assistance. We were all 40+ and most 50+. I was a week away from my birthday, so happy birthday to me. I was also a week away from my 10 yr anniversary. Loved the email I got during my 30-day employed-but-don't-come-to-work period thanking me for my hard work and dedication and how much Cisco appreciated it, please select a cheap $100 gift as our thanks.

What my group did when I got hit in the round in August, was to include enough younger folks to make the numbers work, then open a bunch of new roles for them to apply to with a wink wink nudge nudge. The only ones that left the company were the 40+ crowd.

I thought about pursuing legal action, but ultimately decided I was better off just taking the money and leaving.

No lawsuits when the blood money letter is signed.

Yep. I do not know of anyone who retires at Cisco...except Chambers. You do not have a chance.

Got laid off last September. HR held a session to explain package and brought in Somebody to explain how to claim unemployment, etc. Everybody in the room was 50+ (including HR director who also got laid off after handling the layoffs of the other people in the room).

Count your blessings. You were there until 56? Great to hear. Few years from retirement if you like, live some life while you still have it.
