Thread regarding Sears layoffs

80 layoffs so far this week at corporate. More today.

It has been reported elsewhere on this site that there were 80 layoffs this week at corporate. I can't confirm this number. I do know personally a handful that were let go. I heard a number would take place today. Again with the secrecy these layoffs take place in its difficult to know what's true and what's not. I wanted to add that piece to the discsssuion if it helps. Add anything below if you think it might help.

300ish sounds about what would make sense given our smaller business now. As I said on another post, we as a company need to learn to not hire until we are sure we can support the folks we currently have. Always better to take on more work than to have to ever have to lay off or fire someone. That is at least the way I work. We also have to do a better job of making it known which positions are still open that the laid off workers can apply to before they are laid off. So it sounds like it is happening over several weeks from what I can gather from this forum. We are hiring for the in house call center from what I can tell but letting go some other positions. Interesting though as I still haven't heard of anyone that was let go this week, and normally I hear something.

A few weeks ago the security staff and fitness center staff were told 300ish. It was unclear to them if for that day or over a course of a couple of weeks.

Sure, layoffs happen and I'm sure they have happened over the last 36 years for the person you mention, but every week? I have seen at first hand the people packing their boxes and have said goodbye to some of those let go this week. As others have said it is being done quietly and consistently. It's sad and very stressful, you can forget about exceeding results and turning things around when every morning the threat of being fired is held over you (yes I will get another job but it is never as easy as when people just say it) I would l love TJ help the transformation but not when I might get fired tomorrow

As long as I have worked for this company there have been layoffs. There are just more frequent layoffs now. I spoke with someone who has been here like 36 years, and she said the layoffs have happened since she has worked for Sears....so 36 years.

We have a much smaller business now. They need to think a little bit more before they hire folks as we can't always support the amount of folks we have with the smaller business we do now.

There have consistently been layoffs over the last 2.5 months. I've known a good amount of people to go. I think they're trying to keep it as quiet as possible so they don't have to file anything with the state and so they don't cause an uproar... although I don't think Eddie helps himself in that regard with the one world blog post...

They've been doing it individually as well, it would seem, so as to not attract attention. Two here.....four there.

What a nasty rumor! I am not hearing that type of a rumor here at all. But yes it could be true I guess. You never know as I have always said no matter where you are.

@npf: All in preparation for July 10th I guess. It is a shame that this is where things stand. Live long and prosper (just not at SHLD).

There were definitely some let go in the online business unit. The rumor is that Hoffman Estates will have layoffs weekly until the end of June.

Thursdays are usually the day they do layoffs. So watch out for a bunch of meeting rooms all booked at the same time after lunch. And usually the last Thursday of the month, so maybe next week.

Let us know when you are let go, then we will know its not a fallacy and the end is very very near
