Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Ever been to a retirement party?

In my 10yrs at Cisco, I've never even heard of a retirement party. I think the chance for being LR'd or quitting (read: fed up) is too great. Actually, I have heard of one, when MPLS "retired" from their spin-ins. But outside of those four, nobody has them. They are just shown the door after a 1:1.

There's no exit interview. When I left (willingly) two years ago, there was some half-hearted survey they called the exit interview, with a few text boxes to enter in text on your way out the door. I am fairly confident no one read it, and even if they did, they surely didn't act on it.

Last one I saw was 2008.

Morale probably improved a lot today. As the deadwood survives yet another round, it's sad to realize that working at Cisco is a step above the DMV. Hiding from work is the new norm

Why would anyone with half a brain work at Cisco?

LR process: Begone!

  1. Call with manager (ten minutes)

  2. Packet emailed to you from manager

  3. Print package (lots of information)

  4. Leave building

  5. Mail in HR forms on final separation day (no need to return to campus)

  6. UPS your laptop return

No other calls, contacts, meetings, etc.

Begone!

I've never even seen exit interviews? You just get your 1:1 with your manager who hands you the LR packet and away you go.

For people that quit, there's no exit interviews either. They just give you the "exit packet" (where to send your laptop etc... and away you go.

HR isn't really involved in this process as there is no feedback loop.

The Beatings will continue until morale improves.

A peer of mine, director level, made it to 68 years old at Cisco having worked there the final 10 years of his career. His boss, a newly hired dip$hit, eliminated his job. Obvious move seeing that my peer was an "old white guy." Anyway, I asked at staff meeting what we were going to do to celebrate his "retirement."

Guidance from Cisco HR was "no parties, no celebrations, just send him away."

WHAT A GREAT place to work! Chuckles better look out -- he's an over 50 white guy himself. When are they coming for him??

Does HR even have a process to retire? I thought there was only a method to quit.
