Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Temp CIO

The new 'temp' CIO is barely older than my son... a very young looking man, think he said he was 40 years old. I have been here going on 24 years... it's hard to take any of them seriously, we have had so many CIO's over the last 10 years I can't even remember... maybe 5 or 6?

They all say the same thing, "we are going to modernize our systems". Problem is we don't have any money to replace what needs to be done. Each CIO has a different idea of how to do it and as soon as he starts a new direction, Eddie fires him and plugs in another executive.

A constant revolving door. If I wasn't so close to retirement I would be out of here. Another year and I can leave this madness and do something else. I will say it, if you are in your 30's or 40's... get out now while you can. Don't wait for the ax to fall on you.

"75% of our Member Technology team can be replaced by a small group of IT professionals."

Thats assuming that the IT pros are dumb enough to even want to work for Sears

A note to CIO.

Honestly I believe 75% of our Member Technology team can be replaced by a small group of IT professionals. Many of them will be well under 40.

The same goes for all business units in SHC.

The problem with being mad, sarcastic, joking, etc is that is extreamly difficult to judge intonation. Half the time I have no idea if someone is being serious or not, which is highly frustrating.

@1zgt. I like your attitude. You seem very wise. I guess what it comes down to is just a group of people some mad some sad some sarcastic etc who are just expressing their opinions. It is too bad any of us are in the situation where we dont know the future and are so unsure about what to do or they can do.

I agree that age has nothing to do with it and I am not upset that a younger person achieved much more than I have. I was trying to inject a bit of humor but I guess some didn't like it much. That's ok. Should I go back to school? Sure, probably you are correct. After retirement I might just do that. I am not bitter about Sears. I understand that the company doesn't owe me anything. I think all of us are just venting about the situation, that's also OK. I am not a hater and I am not going to criticize or lecture any of my fellow employees. That's' what this site is all about, post your opinions and see what others have to say. If you don't like what I say, that's ok. Good luck to all fellow employees out there, both current & former.

That's right. No one owes me anything. I worked my a-- off raising a family and going to school while working at Kmart as a lead. They paid me what I was owed and I went on with my life. I didn't expect much because I knew what I was getting myself into. 10 years of working for them and they laid me off. I'm fine with the outcome, I certainly didn't whine and cry about life because someone "wronged me".

You don't have to take him seriously. I'm sure none of them could care less either way.

Who owes you something? Other than a paycheck if you work for them, nothing else is really owed to anyone. It makes your life a lot happier if you realize that earlier versus later in life. And then if something good does happen then you are just happy versus being upset if it doesnt work out the way you planned.

You sure people want everything given to them ? How about given what's owed ? Let me guess people don't owe you anything right ?

Age has nothing to do with anything. If a person is good at what they do then it shouldn't matter. I am happy for anyone who is successfully at any age. Some people on here seem a bit jaded; sorry some 29 year old has achieved more in less time...deal with it and move on. Stop wishing your life was different and instead DO something. Reinvent you self, go back to school, work on finding a new job. This board is full of whiners who what everything given to them (I'm not saying everyone, but definitely a significant amount of people)

How old is the People Person? I think she's quite young. The CIO guy will do fine after SHC.

Does anyone know where Jason Hollar landed? Only 43 so he has many working years ahead.

I think everyone's situation is different, so for some this is a good job. At the corporate level, there are so many changes.....that is true. But I have seen at least a dozen associates leave Sears over the years, go to a supposedly "better" company and be laid off within a year which is why even though people don't like it when I say this, I am going to say it again. When you work for a corporation, you have no control other than to leave yourself. At any time....on any given day they can say your time is up and that's that. What everyone needs to do as best as they can is live underneath their pay IF POSSIBLE because corporations have no loyalty to associates anymore. I wish they did, but they don't. Even companies that never used to lay off people now do.
