Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

RUN WHILE YOU CAN!

DON'T COME BACK! HEED THE WARNINGS! Lowe's is a sh*tbucket that only gets fuller. All of the experienced tenured people are 100% over having to cover for everyone else. Most are leaving as they find better opportunities. You will work shifts as maybe one of two people certified on equipment. A closing shift on a weekend when Cabinets, Appliances, Flooring, Millworks, Lumber, Windows/Walls, and Electrical have a lone midshift that leaves at 7PM. One cashier on the front end for an entire weekend? You want to be one person covering 8 departments.

Meanwhile, the customers get worse and worse everyday. They can't get help and so when they finally do, they are pissy. Trust me, 6 years ago, Lowe's was an exceptional place to work. Now, I'm taking a $4 an hour paycut just to get out of here. RUN WHILE YOU CAN!

What I've noticed since the changes is that more than ever Lowe's is playing both ends against the middle. Fewer workers (my store has 5 fewer FTs than before the layoff) trying to cover more and more for longer periods of time. I don't care what corporate tells the world, but it's not working - at all. I'm at a newer store in the SE that routinely does 1 million a week and yet they act as if we're losing money the way they have hired these PT weekday/weekend workers to cover the peak times. All the while the seasoned PT & FT staff is being asked to come in 2 hours before opening & stay 2 hours after closing. Now they're starting with this group stock down sh--...what a terrible idea.

They need to quit with all the ProServices pampering & install sales coddling...they need to make them pull early morning and night shifts like the rest of us. I've never understood these d---s. They don't account for enough in sales to justify their salaries or cushy hours. HR has to be eliminated at the store level, and the admin folks can be consolidated - one group of workers can cover 5-6 stores. Get rid of the vendors while you're at it. All they do is wander around taking notes of things we know needs doing, but don't have the staff to do. Vendors are a total waste of money.

All comments are 100% accurate. I just resigned from my SSM position. I started with Lowe's in 2007. Trust me it was challenging finding another job that pays close to making what I was getting from Lowe's. Took a 2.00 dollar cut but totally worth it. At the rate Lowe's is going I don't see this company doing well in the near future. I get it large corporations need to cut back to survive at times but Lowe's has cut back at the wrong levels. Just my opinion.

You described it to a T. I thought it was just our store going through this but I guess it's everywhere. Lowe's seems to be going down hill
