Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Considering leaving

So as most are, I am considering leaving Verizon and going to another carrier, but I am unsure if it's the right move. I will not be done with school (Verizon paid) and will not be vested in my 104K until February of next year. Even though Verizon feels like a ticking time bomb, I'm wondering if it would be worth it to just stick it out for one more season then moving one.

Became retirement eligible late last year. Followed much of the guidelines offered below and "fell" into the April '17 RIF...was able to exit with my pound of flesh.

Get out of the industry all together. They're all going to have the same BS that Verizon puts their employees through. Go from one sinking ship to another.

Ride it out til the end and let them lay you off and collect unemployment for a year.. that's what I'm doing.. the other option is go work for 7$ an hour waiting tables. No thanks...

Stay until rif's.... Keep in mind that if rif you become vested and there is no pay back for tuition assist etc...... 1 year is a blink of an eye. S--- it up, finish education and have company pay you to leave. Leaving on your own right now would be foolish as you need to calculate the importance of vesting, that is future money that if left behind would have monumental impacts 30 years down road. Just an opinion mind you.

Last time I used tuition assistance it stated that you would have to reimburse Verizon if you left on your own within a years time. It was 5 years ago and I'm craft so things may be different. Just double check what you agreed to.

Stay and get vested. Unfortunately, you may not have a choice but to leave (involuntarily via a RIF, Feb 2018 is a long way off and there are quarterly RIFs) . Start saving your money and finish school asap.

Wait until you are vested. Milk them for every penny.

I agree, I'd stay. Finish your education without the burden of loan payments, plus the start of your future financial security with a vested 401k.

In your case I'd stay. Let them finish paying for school and wait until you're vested. The time will fly by and then you'll be much better poised to go elsewhere.
