Lowe's is a beast of a company. Don't ever trust HR to help you...they work for Lowe's and are likely just butt puppets for managers (remember, your HR person collects a check and wants to keep their job too).
Some things to do if you are harassed or discriminated against. I've fought unethical people and businesses my whole life, and here are some tips:
1) Talk to your supervisor or manager and make notes of when you did. ALSO, send an email with the store manager & HR director's name on it. Lowe's HATES written records because they can be used in court. I've used this with great success before. Don't listen to the "all records at Lowe's are private" crap. That's for lawyers to hash out - once the information is out, Lowe's has to deal with it. Once it's buried, you'll never get it back. Also, ALWAYS, ALWAYS forward the email to your home email address so you'll have a copy. That way Lowe's can't say it got "lost."
2) Don't lose control. Just be patient and calm, explaining your issue. I know you want to kick the sh-- out of the managers and corporate - I've been there - but this is not the best approach. When you go nuts, it's easy to dismiss you as a "lone wolf" trouble-making employee.
3) NEVER have a meeting alone with just you and a manager or supervisor in an office if you suspect they are trying to feel you out or find grounds to fire you. And this includes HR - HR is not your friend. In fact, like as not, they will be the one that actually fires you. If you find yourself in this situation, simply say you're not comfortable and that you want someone else in the room with you. If HR or someone keeps talking, just get up and leave.
4) Don't tell other employees at this point, even if they are your friends. You tell one person, then they tell someone, and so on...then your story turns into something you didn't say.
5) Let them make the mistakes. I hate to put it this way, but most managers and supervisors at Lowe's you'll find in the stores aren't too smart - otherwise they wouldn't be at Lowe's. Just think about it - don't you think they had to put up with the same sh-- you're complaining about? Yes, but they never did anything about it. Don't be that person.
6) Finally, If you have a true issue with Lowe's discriminating against you or harassing you, then you can file a complaint with the EEOC - the Equal Employment Opportunity Office. Their website is https://www.eeoc.gov/
Trust me, this is the last thing Lowe's wants. Also, send a copy of your complaint to the EEOC to your local newspaper. Even better, if you're in a college town, send it to the campus newspaper. This kids are cutting their teeth and love stories like this.
Good luck stomping on these corporate pigs!!!!!
