Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I have seen several commercials with that new "millennial" pitch man for Verizon and he makes my skin crawl.

I especially love the wedding commercial one. OH HEY LETS PAUSE THE WEDDING BECAUSE HEY I GOTTA TELL YOU HOW BADASS THE VERIZON NETWORK IS. Seriously its not 2007 commercials for the network mean sh-- these days. Then again you cant advertise their prices which are also a joke so what else do you advertise? Lol

Other carriers push commercials advertising product and sales. Verizon rather continue to beat their chest about the network like its 2005 and utilie and obnoxious arrogant jackass as their spokesman. Better Matters? It’s 2017 your network isn’t the be all end all of networks. Even Sprints commercial admits all the networks are pretty much on par. Get with it

"Most of the competition like google T mobile or youtube seem to focus mainly on one thing, and are more cautious and focused on new ventures while Verizon spends like a drunken sailor on 5 different projects at the same time."

While I agree with much of the rest of the post, google and youtube focus mainly on one thing? Apart from the fact that youtube is owned by Google (well Alphabet), google is well known to spend on lots of things, hoping enough pan out to make up for those that don't.

In the end, VZ had to try something. Landline revenue continued to decline, wireless was a race to the bottom., so the status quo would be a slow death. Now whether the something they tried was the best idea is much more questionable, but almost anything (e.g. aggressive FiOS rollout for example) might not work well either.

With the newest Odell Beckham TV spot, Verizon went to the ol' Well of Memes and Tropes: they portrayed a white guy before a famous black athlete, which automatically dooms the white guy to the role of knuckle-brained buffoon. The way Tommy Middleditch storms into EVERY commercial scenario provides insight into Verizon's values: nobody's ceremony--aka "privacy"-- is more important than, nor immune from Verizon's uninvited message.

Thomas Middleditch? He's a very popular comic actor who's worked on Silicon Valley and Comedy Bang Bang, among other things. Get with the culture.

The one where he steals the phones literally made my mouth drop open. What the heck kind of advertising is that?

The new commercials are annoying and the actor is silly - not funny at all! What a waste of money.

Yes he is annoying. I cringe when I see him. Definitely not funny like our old commercials years ago. Need some new marketing leadership or a change in direction. I'm curious which executive it was who championed this guy. So out of touch. And that whole drop the phone idiotic mess. Can't they just find someone who can do something funny and not stupid ridiculous?

Every attempt by VZ is pathetic, doesn't matter product.ie Hum.Platform Go 90..Marketing,these and ALL VZ commercials .Cell ..better matters. Pay way to much for acquisitions. The list goes on forever.Yet the one product that people clamor for they stop investing in.People want and a willing to pay for fiber and it's bandwith..5g will have issues count on it.

I like the get smart guy who pulls the shoe off his foot to make a phone call. Now that was really cool 40 years ago.

T mobile has better commercials.

I bet if you surveyed Verizon's popularity by age group, millennials would be the group with the worst opinion of Vz.

Will Vz ever realize that a big part of the image problem is an out of touch leadership and shady business practices that are easily exposed in the age of the internet?

Most of the "vision" of our leadership is to attempt to replace things that already exist, to compete with strong companies like google or youtube, so far they have not been successful, but they continue to spend and spend in the attempt.

There hasn't been a truly innovative new product, the strategy seems to be keep spending and "fake it till you make it"

Will the much touted 5G save us?

Millennials as a group are probably pretty cynical about commercials, and they probably watch the least amount of commercials in comparison with older customers.

Millennials are likely the most in tune with value for money in terms of data (ISPs), they are the most informed of issues like Net Neutrality and they will be the first group to become aware if Vz attempts to screw the public on such issues. And it looks like that's the plan.

How is our leadership still so out of touch? Part of the problem in my opinion is the sheer size of the company and the contradiction between being a major wireline ISP that is also a wireless company, and now wants to be a media company all at the same time. Most of the competition like google T mobile or youtube seem to focus mainly on one thing, and are more cautious and focused on new ventures while Verizon spends like a drunken sailor on 5 different projects at the same time.

He is a wanker as they say across the pond. Can't stand him. Verizon alienating 50% of the viewers, and hoping to capture the starving snowflake. Great marketing.

How about when he is in the comerical in the "test facility" and he steals 3 Samsung phones? That is such a great example of how we do the customers.
