Have you seen what perishables look like in a Walmart- they are horrible- will never work on an automated system- need competent people ordering. Not saying the WFM buyers were always competent but no one followed up on them when they were struggling

At the store I'm at they started a empty backroom policy which makes me think they are moving towards a walmart style of automated ordering. If other details stores don't need buyer why do some of y'all think WF needs them?

Two years tops. More than likely a year and a half. There is nothing particularly special about any NonPerishable buyer. Conventional stores have been without buyers for decades.

"anybody can be an orderwriter" was the way they trained us for the sop/ots. with all the cute clipboards, holding capacity, movement reports,it sure looks like they are trying to dump this duty upon either the atl/tl and maybe more senior team members...its all about saving 300million over the next few years remember?? what cost can they control the most-labor and the utilities..and they sure aint gonna turn off the a.c. or dairy coolers...i wont be surprised also it the pbs position goes away with the outsourcing/workday software changes that are occurring.and i do know my regional produce buyer does a terrible job keeping top 30 and sales items in stock for the stores will he be held "accountable" or will we just do the ol' "move forward"...

Buyers are not dead meat. Global buying is centralizing so some Regional Buyers will eventually go away. Buyers in the store might get chopped down in numbers...but I know that a Grocery Buyer and a Dairy Buyer have little to concern themselves with elimination. They are safest. Frozen and Bulk is still being figured out.

All in all, none of us can be certain of the future. Just plug away and keep on giving your best.

here is my honest opinion : nobody knows if that position is going away i think it will . if i was you i would keep working hard and learning the buying and start to sent out some resumes that way if you become laid off at least you already have something cooking on the side
