Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Delivery Driver

I worked as a delivery driver, pushing myself 10-14 hrs a day working on days off and beating myself up daily for 9 yrs. I finally said I'm done, my body could not take it much more so I worked hard to become the delivery manager. Boosting morale going 365 days without an incident helping the store and its customers feel comfortable with delivery.

3 yrs later I was training to move up to asm. After being told I should apply for asm and I have a good shot at it.

I get the layoff notice at the DM meeting here I'm thinking "ok I'm a shoe in" apply for all new positions only to be told I am not qualified 4 of the 6 were fresh low payed in experienced managers. These decisions make me believe they had already budgeted for this and made the picks long before interviews.

Now months later even asm' say they made the wrong choices.

4 stores out here lost long term and higher paid Asms. Kick a## ones at that. Plus the DMs that were highly qualified to keep their positions, lost theirs and have a year to find a job. I was reading how Nibloc received a major increase on his yearly income. So really, what was this so called "Restructure" all about? Sure wasn't to promote more associates faces to help customers and what not that's for sure. Just like this one Home Depot gal said, not a very wise move of Lowes as positions are an asset and needed, experienced Asms and DMs are vital to operations in the stores.

It was a salary hunt and now that they are failing they are looking towards the ones who were qualified. Sad part is most of them moved on.. The comment below is spot on.. My store had 3 of the highest paid DM's and 2 were not selected. The 3rd was default and he was the lowest of the 3..

From what I've seen at my store and heard from others... some of the best trained, ready to advance, probably also highest paid DMs were not given the service/support positions. This is a payroll control move at its finest... we have 3 people in my store who have experience as DMs in every department including admin/freight, nearly 10 years experience each... and these positions were given to department managers who were in their position for only 2-3 years instead and have only ran maybe two departments max.
