From annual 10-K filings beginning 2005 to 2016 - excludes Grand, Essentials and Independently owned stores -- closing percentages calculated on 5 yr and 12 yr time frames - does NOT include the 2017 closings ( the numbers ain't gonna get any better with the 2017's )

Looks like Kmart is vying to be the sacrificial lamb first

So basically, on track to have closed at least half the stores that were open in 2006 by the end of 2017.

Square footage would be an interesting number for sure since essentially all the Super-K's have closed and at least a few Sears formats have given up space to other retailers. Wouldn't be surprised to see that number somewhere around 2/3 lower today than in 2006.
