Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Print my own check

I got laid off this year after 24 years of service. If that wasn't bad enough I had to basically fire myself. I had to print my own package fax it and find my last pay check. I was a manager at sears for many years and was a dedicated employee

I get lay offs bit not much of a thanks after 24 years of service.

@2ouh, you make a lot of sense. I'd forgotten all those rules you mentioned. Our leads open, close, hold keys & come into the cash office. No manager to cover.

I think rules like "the DM always fires in person" are gone with the wind since things have really gotten down to bare bones. Along with a lot of other rules. For example, we're not supposed to be open for business unless a salaried manager is present. (We only have one. In order for this to be carried out, she'd have to work over 70 hours a week.) Or leads not being allowed to have a store key and a cashroom key. (Leads are the only managers in the store half the time, so have to have both now.) Corporate still talks about following policies as if they still make sense. In the stores we just do whatever we have to do to get by.

@1knt, when the manager from my store was let go, for cause, it was via conference call. Don't know who or where they were but it was over the phone. Although one of the AP guys was hanging around the hub, SHC still put a lot of faith into this guy not going off and doing some kind of damage either to the store or worse, to someone. I guess they didn't care.

RE: "The DM performs SM layoffs. Not buying this. They always want another person in the room." There was nobody in the room when I was let go after 38yrs. I was told on a conference call with someone from HR in New Jersey and my boss who was in Tennessee. In fact my boss hung up the phone after telling me that my job had been eliminated and I was on the phone with the person from HR the full hour.

The DM performs SM layoffs. Not buying this. They always want another person in the room. Nice try in making up a story.

How could you be so clueless as to what has been going on around you the last few years. I am sorry for the loss of your job but you must have had your head in the sand these last few years. Take some time off and come to the understanding that it was not you, but the horrible company you worked for. You will feel some loss. That is natural.

As a manager, I guess that's one of the ironies of the job. If you're the highest in the store ...

At least you know you won't contest your own unemployment claim.

Good luck though. This is a new beginning for you.
