Macy's Credit Card

Does anyone know if Managers/Supervisors get incentives or Money when an associate opens a Macy's Card?Whenever I get a loyalty (Macy's card signup) my manager is overly excited not to mention always bugging me everyday, so much to the point I'm feeling harrased.

That not true... How can you sleep at night. Managers do get intensives. And Macy's use to care long long time ago. like 10 years back. I seen hard working EMPLOYEES get Layoff just before retirement. Injured employees on workers comp get harassed. And if you cared so much why make us work on Thanksgiving Day and lock our schedules so we can't balance our life?

No, managers do not get incentives. We want to offer our customers the best way to save money and receive coupons and special financing offers. It is our job to take care of our customers and offer them the all th best perks. Most of what is posted here is gossip and speculation. I've worked for Macy's for nearly 20 years as a manager and can tell you honestly, there's no better company to work for. Macy's cares about the employees and our customers.

Yes! There are not only monetary incentives, but for every 40 hours worked, you must open 3 accounts. That said, the "regular" employees, you know, the ones with a conscience, try hard to ask every person. The credit queens, the ones who are always opening 50+ a month, have unscrupulous tactics they use on customers. For example, used with me just this week: can I "upgrade" your account? FYI-no such thing!! Your card is based on your spending. All this does is lower your credit score!! Another example: People without SS#'s...they make one up!! Imagine if they happened to use yours!!! OMG!! These are only a couple of ways they are bullying customers into credit! I finally had to leave my job as the pressure to open a credit card was ridiculous, as are the way management treats their people. They praise the ones who are illegally opening credit, and berate those of us with a conscience. I for one will not lie and cheat so a company can make more $$$.

No one was completely transparent. While I agree with the posts, the incentive is monetary. If the team makes their credit goal, certain months the managers can get a small Macy money incentive (think 50 dollars of MM). However, if a manger makes all his or her goals consistently all year, then the manager is eligible for a merit raise. If you feel harrassed, then your manager is most likely feeling pressure from the senior team. Tell her how you feel, and ask how you can work together to make your store goals. Hopefully you can both be merit eligible next review season.

As a former MIC of credit, there was at one time a program for sales managers to earn Macy's money if the ratio of their associates was like 3:40 hours worked. Maybe one manager in a store would earn this in a month. Sometimes the VPSM might offer MM to their managers as an incentive, on an individual basis. Believe me, the SM do not get very much $$ in this program. I was in a Macy's store this afternoon, and everyone that I observed was trying to open a Macy's Amex card.....getting that 2nd app from an existing Macy's card holder.......I remember a year or so ago corporate shut down this practice, and the customer had to ask for the Amex card first before we took the app. Gee, I wonder why this has changed at this time? Or perhaps the VPSM is directing this twist again......

My first credit card was a Macy's credit card - I got it when I was 19. I did not work for the company at that time, I've kept it for almost 20 years now. I think we handle this side of the business well and that we are fairly transparent with the customer. I can complain about 1000 other things, but when it comes to credit cards, I honestly have nothing bad to say.

I know that getting credits is hard. However, I have to disagree with one of the comments most of the credits I get are from 18 to 21 year olds. I first make sure they understand it is a credit card. However, the can use it to build credit. Whenever they use their card they can pay it off at the register which builds their credit and helps keep the interest off their card. It's a win win situation. Now onto to the other comment the managers have a goal to make so they push us to get credits. We did have one manager who used to steal guests from Associates then get a credit for one of her Associates. That problem was brought up in an EAG meeting and was dealt with from the management stand point. I am a top producing credit associate but there are times I don't get one for a week. My managers usually ask me why. There are times my guests already have a Macy's card.

Most people are frank and open about the process and what it is. There are bad apples everywhere - in my store one person got fired because of lying as the management will not tolerate it - I know it's important but there are legal, moral and ethical boundaries as it relates to credit goals. And yes, it's a Credit Card, truly.

In my store its the unscrupulous ones that give it a bad rap. Between using fake SSNs

for visitors that don't have one or being deceptive by lying and saying its not a credit card, but a savings card. I'm sure we're not the only store that has those associates.

The incentive is not that great. Except you get to keep your job. Associates at Macy's are required to get so many and if they don't they are coached.

Hello Original poster - all three responses below are right on... I hope that helps. Everyone wins with Star Rewards, I know it sounds corny (or koolaid-ish) but it's really true.

Star Rewards = success. On top of everything said prior, it develops customer loyalty. Customer loyalaty equals more visits and more sales.. etc etc... Star Rewards is also a part of a Managers scorecard so it really has a lot of different reasons why it's so important. Some Managers can also be rewarded Macys Money for SR performance. The only real opportunity for them to earn MM.

It's a loss of $100 from the bottom line for every account under goal. Now for every account over goal, it's $100 added to our bottom line. The managers at our location are actually good to us and are honest with us when discussing that. The managers get so excited because the daily goal is decided among the managers in duty and whomever doesn't get enough accounts on their shift looks really bad. Each managers dept also carries weekly/monthly goals for the team account wise, so the manager again looks bad if they don't make it. Now, these accounts can often. E the difference between a store making or not making its profit numbers for the year, which used to only determine how good the manager raised were. Now it determines if they get a raise at all and wether or not a store even stays open. The problem now is that people my daughters age no longer want Macy or store cards unless it's for some place like Victoria secret or Apple. So, the only people who actually use it want a Macy card are people over 40. Unfortunately, anyone in that range who wants one has it or has already tried! So the market is saturated and nowhere near the same amount of people are applying as years ago! I used to get 3/4/5 apps a day 3 out of my 5 shifts every week! Now I'm struggling to get 2/3 a week. People are relying more on their major credit cards with great incentives and great APRs! Can't compete with that! Customers are more educated now about credit!

If the store does not make credit goal for the month, the store will get $$$ deducted from the bottom line. I believe it's $1,000 for every missed account. Managers will get a bad scorecard, thus the VPSM will be in the hole for a bad annual review. That means no bonuses or raises for them!
