Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Hours Cut

Did any other Kmart stores receive calls to cut hundreds of hours before the end of the week? DM called us, and wanted to cut $1,600 from our payroll... We're down to one supervisor in the evenings, HR covering as cash office, cut our pharmacy techican's hours (one of the few stores in the district that still has a RX), and have one person to cover the salesfloor.

Next week our store hours are being cut to 9:00-9:00 M-F, and 9:00-8:00 Saturday/Sunday.

Just wanting for the day when the DM comes to the store to deliver the 'store closing' news. It's sad... We've lost 10 associates due to hours already being barebones, and noone is applying to replace them./

Sounds to me like the claims that BK is likely by the 10th are likely true. Probably need to cut like mad this week so they aren't forced into BK by creditors, before the illegal conveyance date is cleared.

DM said to cut over $3000 dollars in payroll for next week. Everyone is working 5 hours or less now, how can this be done? I have to cut everyone's hours to 3 or less and give at least 10 people no hours. One register, one service desk, one ASM to staff a store does not work.

Make sure you get your counter detail done lol I love it when the manager tells the one person running the entire floor to make sure they get it put back together tonight and then walks out the door (eye roll).

@rcl Let me be more direct when I meant higher ups I meant the managers in my store. 1 Store manager and 3 other managers that usually all hide in the office crying about numbers, but wont come out and help or if they do its very rare (store manager never comes and helps only crys and whines. Thats what I meant by the higher ups never get cuts.

I'm OP, and yes, I am aware of the financial crisis and layoffs that SHC is going through. However, in my time with the company, I have NEVER been ordered to drastically so much payroll mid-week with an already barebones payroll budget. I know the company will implode sooner rather than later, but it's getting to the point that we can't even staff the store with minimum staffing. Yes, I'm already looking for a different job...

Even more concerning is that inventory is next week, and we're not even close to ready. If sales don't kill us, I'm sure inventory will.

We receive a truck tomorrow... At this point, store manager is thinking of calling off the unload time, and just running unload with the morning supervisors, myself, store manager, and one of the fillers.

Really? Are you aware they fired more than one VP and hundreds of others in the last couple weeks?

Well now I will check my schedule later today just incase my schedule is cut do to possible hour cuts. Its just ridiculous how much cuts they do to the lowest levels. Yet you see the top ones not getting their cuts.

Same. I'm sure we're at the end.. mod called me today didn't know what to do because of the cuts, no one to staff the store with this budget. To make matters worse budget is lowest it's been ever even with our blowout sale about to start. At this point it's only about saving whatever money they can..
